Unfortunately, a box with approximately 800 unsplit leather wraps was stolen off my porch on Thursday August 23 (retail value in excess of 10K). The package was vastly under-insured and not shipped "signature required" by the shipper. The theft was reported to the Orange, CA police. About 4 weeks later a cuemaker friend of mine who I had informed about the theft, asked me about having leather wraps split in a phone conversation. He explained that Joe Fiscella, the owner of Triangle Billiards (Retail Pool Table/ Gameroom Store)in Orange, CA (a mile or less from my home) had provided him with 7 different unsplit wraps for him (shown below) to evaluate and offer a price on the entire lot. I immediately informed my friend that those wraps were the ones stolen off my porch. I went to Triangle and saw Joe. I asked about the wraps and was told they were "at another location." I then told Joe the wraps were stolen from me. He then said he didn't have the wraps, they belonged to a 45 year-old woman (or leprechaun, Easter Bunny) who came in his store. He had her phone number in the back room. When he came out of the back room, he said his helpers had "cleaned up" and must have threw the paper away that had her number. "She'll probably call back" (never did). I reported this to the Orange police and a detective was assigned (and concluded I was out of luck despite the 7 wraps Joe handed the cuemaker in attempting to strike a deal). In the meantime, I called every billiard related store within 40 miles of me. Nobody else was offered the cue leather. 4 of the wraps (right side of photo) were going to be a new style of "Iguana" wraps for me. It is unique and sold out from the distributor. If I ever trace these wraps back to the source of the fencing or stealing, I'm probably going to go to jail. Any information that leads to the culprits who stole/ sold stolen property will be appreciated. The billiards industry is not that large. Thanks for looking/ listening. Martin

That really sucks Martin, you told me about this stuff but I did not realize it was that much money involved.
I really hope that whoever did it ends up with their "S" in jail.

Man that really sucks. You might put the word out to the good folks at the splitting company and have them look out for someone trying to get them split. Sorry for your loss.

That really sucks Martin
I will make a small order this week, hope it helps a bit

I'll keep my ears open an hour north of you....

Did Joe at Triangle not have CCTV recording from that day? Maybe there was as picture of "her" face. BTW, is your delivery person a woman?

I would suspect the courier(ask for a picture and see what happens). Someone who knew the nature of the package. Someone who knew you dealt with billiards. Someone who knew you in some way. If it was addressed to you and not a name associated with billiards, you can be certain they know you(how else would you know to take it to a pool hall?). Furthermore, unless someone was following around UPS, it is unreasonable to surmise that a random person just drove by, noticed your package, decided to steal it and take it to the nearest pool hall...

I once had a 5 thousand dollar supercharger stolen from UPS. I almost didn't insure it for full value. After I received the receipt, it disappeared. It never left my local UPS center. One of the employees stole it.

If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I don't live that far away....

Thanks everyone/ Randy. There were 2 boxes, each 62 lbs. One was left behind (no room in their vehicle I'm guessing). The thieves were probablly just following the UPS truck. A week later a UPS delivery worth $175.00 was also stolen off the porch! No loss to me though. I am now a nazi about "hold for pickup" or "signature required" deliveries.

Martin....sorry for your loss. Might be a good idea to keep your eye on craigslist and pawnshops for the next few weeks.

Shouldn't the shipper be on the hook for the shipment?

Weeks ago my ups driver tried to chase down two thieves on bicycle
by my hood.
He's been careful in not leaving packages in the open.
Good luck Martin.
That really blows.

Martin you should look into security cameras. The quality and price for a system got so much better. Again sorry for your situation. Hope they turn up.

Martin, sorry to hear this happening to you. Hope you can recover the stolen wraps.

SHOULD be.... With any shipment of valuable goods, it is foolish not to insure for full value. I'm not trying to rub salt into wounds, but proper insurance would have made this just a drawn out inconvenience. Furthermore, to allow a 10k shipment to just be dropped off without a sig baffles me....

Second, how can you be sure both boxes were ever delivered?

I can count on a couple of fingers the people I trust with money....and those few have alot more than me.....

Yes, but it is the shipper's responsibility to insure the package. I always laugh when I see ebay listing that charge extra for insurance. If the package doesn't make it or is damaged, the transaction is not complete and falls on the seller, not the buyer.

I agree completely.. Amazon "sent" me some things that an offbrand carrier "delivered"(except I never received it) and made it right.

It wasn't 10 grand though...

Maybe a nice visit from the Amish Mafia to the people that Martin suspects that stole the merchandise would be bring the stuff back...

Good luck I hope these people find their justice

By the way where are you located my iPad doesn't show locations?

Sorry to hear about this Martin.

You were so close to catching her too. Maybe she will call the pool hall again. Do you know the owner well enuff to know he won't deal with her behind your back?

Good luck, I hope this gets resolved in your favor. I'm sure or at least hopeful that you haven't heard the last from her.

She took them to a pool hall so apparently knew what they were used for.
