Alex givin up 15-4, $3000/game..............

Stan ( Goose ) McDowell, ( Mizerak Sr.'s partner for 30 years or more ), told me once "Never bet on another guy's shot." What he meant was, if some guy tells you "I can make *this* shot..." ( which of course seems *impossible* ) "Gimme 50 shots at it and you can bet it up." then, in all probability, the guy CAN make that "impossible" shot, or he wouldn't be asking you to bet on it. So, by extension, if a good player offers you a game that seems he *can't win* at? As the old saying goes ( and, according to Stan, literally ), "Don't bet on it."

Give them what they want, not what they need.

The "sap" was Ronnie Allen and he ROBBED the guy.

Ronnie in his prime was a sight to see. He could out think, out maneuver and out talk anyone. And after all that he would outplay them as well! He once told me that for him the break was worth four balls. He would play very good players even one handed if they gave him the break. I never saw him lose that way!

You might have noticed the trouble many of the current crop of top One Players has with combinations. Not so with Ronnie. He would figure out the off angle combos and shoot them in consistently to continue his runs. The best I ever saw on those shots. Like Dennis today, he was at his best the higher the bet went. Ronnie was never afraid to press the bet when he was ahead. Once he got your nose open he would beat you to death.

I wish we had recorded more of his conversation. He had the best table talk in the game as well; humorous and yet demoralizing for his opponent. Ronnie exuded confidence from every pore of his body.
