Alex Higgins obit in the NYTimes

A wonderful read. The first line and last line of the article say it all.

The rogues of sport are legion...Higgins said in a late-in-life television interview in Britain [about billiards], "I suppose, in a way, it's like a drug."

It is hard for me to ignore the state he was in that was attributed to his death. Is his demise a forshadowing of what we have to look forward to with government health care?

May he rest in peace.

Show a little class and keep your political comments out of these respectful threads and in NPR where they belong.

I always enjoyed watching Alex play, it was never boring. RIP.

You must not have read the obituary, that's where it was mentioned.

Wow, the rules of snooker in an obit. Who'd a thunk it?

Pigs must be flying somewhere.

RIP

Nice article, very similar to allot of players that have gone before us, at least his sport gave him the dollars one would need as a cueist to make something of their life if they chose. I always think of the Miz and if he could of kept his weight under control he would still be knockin' on the door. He didn't have the many other problems the Hurricane had yet the sport/game here in the states does not allow one with great talent to play in a structured sport like the offerings of snooker for the males in the UK.
