Alex Pagulayan Can't Play Boyes Tomorrow - Tony Robles to Replace Him

Too bad for Alex, but I'm excited for Tony. He's got such a sweet stroke and a great game. I'd only seen him a few times on Accu-stats before moving to NYC, but now that I've seen him in person he's the real deal and deserves a break like this. I wish him the best.

I'm so excited for him. It was all so very last minute! I saw Karl for the first time in Las Vegas for the 10-ball event. Wow, is he good. It should be a good match up. I'm looking forward to it. And if you like 14.1, you'll learn a ton from Tony's commenting. (I think he gives away TOO many good secrets!) :sorry:

POOL monkey, you rock!

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing but personally, If I had to pick one pro pool player who could somehow lose his passport at a crucial time before a match.... It'd be Alex

Funny thing. All my life I've lived near and loved Canada and Canadians. Since 9/11 I've heard more Canadians prove they are not our staunchest ally than in all the combined memories of the 56 years of my life. You may think that I'm taking this too seriously, but for Americans it's a serious subject. We can't have open borders any more. If you don't get it, oh well. I figure you need us more than we need you...Tom

Well said, Tom! I gave you rep on your post yesterday but feel the need to reply to it today.

My "patriotic ass" is in 100-percent complete agreement with you.

Boyes is apparently a man with a great sense of humor. I didn't attend the DCC this year, but from everything that I have been told, Boyes and Darren Appleton are players with a great presence and good sense of humor.

Here's Karl Boyes' website for those who may want to learn more about him: http://www.karlboyes.co.uk/

Here's a cute Valentine's Day card that Karl sent to his good buddy, Darren Appleton, which displays his great comedic personality. Check out the haircut!

I think we are all going to be in for a treat watching Karl versus Tony Robles. Though I think Karl is cute as a button, I gotta root for the home team, but I will enjoy seeing Karl strut his stuff on a field of green today.

Well sir this is not Pool related and if you feel the need to bash other nationalities take it to the NPR room. But since it is here I will respond...

Canadians were among the rescuers that went to NY after 9/11 occurred, to aid your countrymen in the rescue efforts. How many other countries came to the aid of your fellow Americans?

If we are not your staunchest ally, who is? If not Canadians than no one...is this really how you want?

Canadians was among the first nations to help in Afganistan and Canadians are being killed along side your American brothers and sisters at this point in time...yet Canadian sacrifices does not count for anything to you?

You need to re-evaluate how you view Canadians. Among your own people there are those who do not agree with the American actions and policies, so if Canadians voice their opinion to our friends across the border we are not your allies?

Your borders are wide open to the South of your country and at your Ports to every drug importer and foreign worker. Yet with your 2nd largest trading partner after China you want to close the border...If you don't want our oil or trade, just get it from the Middle East...ohh right your Country is spending billions (trillions?) on it's war effort in the middle east, and it's not going so well over there is it?

Well that's enough of a rant. God Bless North American brotherhood!

Great post.

When I was in the military, I was able to go on a field exercise called Rendevous - which was held up around Wainwright, Alberta. For 3 weeks my squad was assigned to a Canadian unit providing Air Defense. It was probably the most fun I ever had as a soldier. We traded field equipment with each other, played poker all night in the tents - and I was able to see some of the friends I had made there a few years later at KKMC in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. We were all there.

9/11 took everybody by surprise on both sides of our borders. I was in Canada (Toronto - Mississauga - Whitby) immediately before and after 9/11. I remember the ribbons that were displayed, and the American flag was displayed next to the Canadian flag almost everywhere I went, even in some of the predominantly Muslim communities in Scarborough. It affected all of us, and I remember the outpouring of support that came from the north.

What any of this has to do with Alex having passport trouble confuses me - I just wonder if Alex has also misplaced his mousse. Now... that would really ruin his day.

:p

(First met Alex when he was playing snooker in Toronto)

Those statements show how ignorant Americans are. Waving that flag is what brought on the problem in the first place, well, waving it in the wrong places and greed not Canadians resulted in 911. Now that you have your oil, you have to charge 8 times more just to keep control in the middle east. How else do you think the war is being paid for... unless your taxes increased by 700-800 % the rest of the world is paying for your conflicts.

Hitler had his personal views that he tried to force upon the world years ago... that is a horrible time in human history. An entire country trying the same thing instead of a single person doesn't make it right. The U.S has been there for years trying to force their beliefs on countries that have totally different views and way of life. Diplomacy, bill of rights etc does not apply there. Religious believes caused these civil wars that were thousands of miles away until the U.S decided to try and change them.

Canada was the first one there with the pooper scooper, trying to clean your shit up and we will be that last ones to leave. The Canadian boarder was used for an attack against the U.S. NOT CANADIANS!!! Some people here might have high rep points, however, for me, the respect points just dropped to zero!

My grandpa always said there are three things you should never discuss in public .... Politics, Religion & Money. They'll all get you in trouble and everyone's got a different opinion that they are entitled to and feel passionate about. It's just trouble!

Can we drop this whole conversation. It's inappropriate to this particular thread and raining on my "YEAH FOR TONY" parade!

blame GG11 for this.

GG11 should have known that by announcing that Tony was replacing Alex that this whole thread would evolve into a flag-waving battle between Canadians and Americans.
Until today I was proud to be an American, but now Jason has pointed out the error of my ways. As his first sentence reveals, we are all ignorant.
I just threw up all the Molson I drank last night.

What would Brian Boitano do?

Couldn't agree more. It just got me extremely pissed. I sat watching those attacks during 911 and was sick watching it. I could not believe something like that would happen... I donated and wanted to help during the rescue. To be placed here as a risk to the states is complete BS to me and I find it very offensive. I wasn't sitting back that morning wonder how to attack or if the attack was going to be a success, I was seeing what to have for breakfast, ended up not eating until supper time.

side note: That all Americans was to put you into the same class Canadians got grouped into. The only difference is I said you all waved flags, and someone got pissed... Let someone call you a terrorist or responsible for attacks against the states lets see how you feel.

Definitely my intention.

Ok, so for every ridiculous post that involves flag waving, American, unAmerican, Candian, Quebecian, whateverian talk there is, I'm simply posting a GO TONY in hopes of this thread returning to it's original intent...

This should be fun as I now have all these new emoticons to use!!

GOOOOO TR BABY!! :thumbup2:
