Alex Pagulayan going to UK to try pro snooker

Alex lost in the 2nd to last round and the final round. Only one player did better that didn't qualify by losing in both final rounds. His name is Eden Sharev. Ashley Carter lost in final round in the first tournament and 2nd last round in 2nd tournament. Jamie Rhys Clarke lost in final round and then 4th round so he would be next in my order. (He beat Pagulayan 4-2). This says nothing about the draw but in my estimation Sharev would be 9th, Pagulayan and Carter tied for 11th and Clarke 12th.

What is my point? Alex did pretty damn good! lol

top-up opportunities

So Alex would be in the top 4 among possible "top-ups". I expect in most 128-man fields there would be top-up opportunities. The big problem is probably expenses, that is airfare to get there and hotel costs. If you can get there, you can probably play.

Who is backing Alex?

I expect he will be invited to play in the first round of the world championship next year. It will be a 144 player event with all living world champions invited plus top ups to encourage global participation. He will also certainly be invited to other tournaments based on his Q school performance. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't accept at least one invitation to play.

Well now that it's all done I want to say I was excited for Corey and Alex and pleased to be able to follow it so easily. Now we get to see what happens with both of them. Someone should make a documentary of their journey. Seems like Corey put up a few decent breaks. I hope both of them get quality coaching because QUALITY FORMAL coaching actually exists in snooker.

As much as I am turned off by a few snooker snobs on AZB I have to say that the sport of snooker has its shit together when it comes to INFORMATION and PRESENTATION. Q-school in snooker is EASIER to follow and know what's going on than the WPA World Championships in pool.

No wonder snooker endures.

Glad we could help. Just think how much better the Snooker World would be if they abandoned good mechanics and embraced CTE.

Probably be making a lot more centuries with longer shots in there.

You just had to be a troll and go there.....cte promotes great mechanics if YOU want to turn this into a CTE thread we can.

John is right. This was/is a good thread. No need to get it closed or moved. If you feel like bashing CTE, that's fine, but there are a jillion threads in the Aiming Forum you can do so in.

Normally I would say that Alex had no chance to qualify, competing against these guys who grew up playing Snooker. Plus the fact that at age 37, he is already on the high end of the pro snooker range.

But Alex is a freak, much like Efren. If anyone could overcome the odds and transform themselves into a competitive snooker player at an advanced age it would be Alex. There's a reason he's called the LION, because he has so much heart. My feeling after this display is that if Alex were to devote the next year solely to snooker he would make the tour at age 38. He has unusual talent, rare at any cue game.

Let's see what happens if he actually sticks with it, gets some proper coaching and dedicates himself to the game. I give him less than six months to be a high level player, certainly capable of competing on the national tour. We will just have to sit back and see what transpires. I'm rooting for you kid!

I like Alex game, but i would not call it talent! the man plays pool and snooker since he was a kid, has nothing in life but that, with that much dedication to the game, he better be good, like many other pros, i do not expect less, but it is not unique talent.

I've seen some of your other posts Naji, and you are either completely clueless, or a super troll, or both.

I am sure you will come back and say you didn't say what you said, but no matter, if you would not describe Alex as "talented" you really don't belong in this forum or for that matter on this planet or in this universe.

You could substitute various names for Alex', like
"I like Tiger game, but I would not call it talent!"
"I like Earl game, but I would not call it talent!"
"I like Ronnie O'Sullivan game, but I would not call it talent!"
"I like LeBron game, but I would not call it talent!"

You are a ridiculous troll.

We may not have too long to wait to find out. Qualifying for the Wuxi Classic is about to start in the same venue I think, so expenses would be minimal. If the link is correct (it's not an official site remember) losers at this stage get absolutely nowt for their efforts though.

There are a few here that think theirs no such thing as natural talent ,, I'm certainly not in that camp
Alex is naturally talented and has like all top players practiced enough to bring his pool game to a top level
IMHO Talent , Instruction ,Practice x yrs = Elite level Snooker players
It remains to been seen if Alex can learn enough to compete at a top level I respect Jays opinion but given his age I'm not so sure he can get there

Wuxi Classic

I don't think Naji's comments can be compared to anyone else's on this thread.

Whether Alex makes it or not is not so much a matter of speculation anymore, because it looks like he will get to play pro snooker tournaments as a top-up. So either he wins some or not.

I know we are pulling for him.

JB,
Troll? That's all you got? How so? My full name and location are there for all to see. I'm not selling anything. I have been involved in this thread from the beginning. The simple fact is that I have played and followed snooker for a long time and wasn't blinded by the fact that Alex was going to give it a go and we should all believe that he would make it with magic pixie dust. My opinion from the beginning was exactly what Jay said. Sorry Alex you are just a little late. I'm not some sort of snooker-snob. Today I would estimate that 90%+ of my time is on a 9 foot. The first 20 years was 100% on a 12foot. Where rock solid mechanics and fundamentals are key.

Why so sensitive? I make a small jab at CTE and now I'm a troll. How does CTE promote great mechanics? I thought it was akin to a MAP. Not driving lessons. Based on how you hop around when shooting I wouldn't want to see you drive.

Now back on topic. Well done Alex and hope you outrun the clock and make it on tour.

I appreciate your opinion and will reframe. I take issue with anyone who doesn't believe that Alex can just walk in and get a tour card as a snooker snob. To my knowledge I have never been the cause of a thread being closed or moved. Further to that I have never been banned or warned.

Hummmmmmmm....I wonder who would be the King of this? I can't seem to place it...ah nevermind. Sorry.

Sounds like it was a little unfair to offer to play JB for cash in snooker given your experience in the game.

IMHO you should play a set of your game, snooker and then a set of JB's game, 1-pocket.

That way you both get an advantage in one of the two sets.

The real fact is they wanted so badly for him to make it so they could say , see snooker know it alls it's not so tough ,,
Well here's a news flash it is tough and he never even played anyone remotely good and their still saying with practice he will be competing with the best of them
Instead of saying , man that game must be hard if a world class player like Alex could not qualify after putting that on his top to do list , they say oh if he hits it hard for 6 months he will be a. Top level player

Dream on

My game is not one pocket as evidenced by how badly I stunk it up gifting Lou the set.

I don't have a game. I play all games equally bad.

But I will take the 40 points and see how I do.

I do agree though...Nick seems like a nit, seeing as how he was a great snooker player with hundreds of centuries in his life. Making a 40 point spot to me should be like clubbing baby seals.

Guess that's the difference between heart and larceny.

Um, let's see, can't keep your mouth shut and have to make comment about CTE in a thread like this that was doing fine talking about ALex and snooker and you claim you didn't troll? Hmm, just had to push John's buttons didn't you and then act innocent.

Ok....

It shows your ignorance of the game if you think 40 is a small spot. In Canada clubbing baby seals in written into our Constitution. Besides I would pee myself if you came out looking like a Chinese Pimp (aka Lou's match). I would have to forfeit or play wet. Maybe you can make me a JB Cases-Super Rugged Diaper? I drink a lot of coffee so make it think.

My friend you don't have buttons. You have big long levers with big red knobs and you respond like Donkey Kong does to his joystick.
