Alex- The next Efren?

He is so young yet he plays so incredibly good. I would stake this kid against any player in the world, after seeing the clinic he put on Efren at last night's tournament at the Bicycle Club. The match was close at 3-4 when Alex broke and ran the last 7 racks to win the match! I like how Alex gives so much respect to Efren. Against any other player, he is usually all smiles and talkative, putting on a show. Against the magician, he is quiet and very humble. Nice kid, give him 5 years he will be the best player in the world.

agree. think he has a very good chance. a really good player, though i love efren and it's too bad he lost.

I like alex too, but he is very far from taking over Efren as the best now and of all time!

I was wondering when you'd chime in this thread. I'll say one thing, though, at least you're consistent. Efren certainly is one of the greats of all time and is lucky to have a loyal fan such as you.

Alex coming in second at the WPC was quite an accomplishment for this young fellow. I think we're going to be hearing more and more about him in the coming years. I don't believe he has even reached his peak yet, and that's phenomenal.

Amen MS. I thought it was a rhetorical question. Yes, he is the next Efren.

Every time I've seen Efren, I have been impressed with his attitude. Almost all of the players not only respect him but they seem to genuinely like him too. I've never seen him show anger or anything but respect for his opponents. When he makes a mistake, which isn't often, he will laugh at himself. You just gotta like a guy like that!

I saw Bucktooth barking at Efren in Reno trying to embarass him in front of a bunch of people so he could get all the nuts. Bucktooth went a little too far and a lady started yelling at Tooth to shut up because everyone likes Efren and nobody likes you. She hit it right on the head too.

In the Asian culture as soon as we are out of the womb we are taught respect for our Elders. I cannot tell you how respect for our elders and betters and education plays a big part of our lives. It is even ingrained in our language. That is why Jose is refered to Amang which I guess the closest english word can be teacher or master. I see this in Alex. In his eyes and behaviour. I see the love and respect he has for Efren and the older Philipinos. Efren was refered to as Bata when he was young-The Kid. I guess that would refer to his prodigy potential. Watch Alex in the accustats tape where Nick Varner beats him for the World one pocket title the way he touches Nick. It is how the respectful student touches the teacher. Alex is the new Bata. He has to take over where guys like Jose and Efren leave off. Though he has yet to prove himself in all games like Efren and Jose has Im sure he will. His knowledge of all games is still suspect. Though he has beaten Jose in one pocket and Grady Mathews for some large stakes in Straight Pool. (An amazing feat). If he stays the true course and doesnt get distracted by the phonies and the limelight Im sure he will reach Efren status.

yobagua,
Alex has yet to prove himself in all games? You're not serious are you?

His knowledge in all games is suspect. hahahaha I love that comment from you.

you two are a trip! Not everyone has Fast Larry as their hero like you guys! lol lol

Oh man, you're really Larry!!!! Run for cover everybody and hide the women and children.

I wasn't asking a question.....I was making a comment. There's a difference in the two. Thought it was kind of funny myself.

Just pickin on ya buddy, I like the stuff you write (entertaining) so don't take anything too personal. I like to bug up now and then, so if I dish anything out, trust me I can take it also.

Going to DCC? It'll probly be the best one so far and I think they should have a calcutta for the all-around too. Think I'll e-mail Grady about that.

Take care King

I don't feel he'll be the next Efren But i'll tell u what he is a great player and and Great person .But to try to make him out to be the next Efren. I would not say so.

Its cool Steve... no biggie man its all in good fun, No problem here.Id like to go to the DCC Just to far for me!

I just watched the Alex/Efren match where Alex won 11 to 3. Efren came back and beat him on the losers side 11 to 5. I think Alex is a great player too. He seems like he really has his act together too. I think it's a little too early to say he's going to be the next Efren though. There are a lot of great players out there that would disagree with that such as Mika, Ralph, Busta, Archer and the list goes on and on.

Hey Rick, how ya been?

Mika, Ralf, Fransisco, and Archer. HMMMMM.

Mika and Ralf might play straight pool better than him MOST of the time.

NONE OF THEM has to beat him all the time playing 8-ball, 9-ball, 10 ball.

Alex plays way better one-pocket than all of them, and banks.

Plus he runs 100s at snooker although the champions will beat him consistantly.

Doesn't sound too bad of a kid to look out for to me. About the only person he would have real trouble with playing all games BY THE GAME, not sets would be Efren and................probly no one else, and he's still a young punk to boot. Thats a real important thing to consider, how young he still is and plays everything as well as he does.

If you are going to mention names I think you have to say people that play everything.......Efren, Jose , Nick Varner, Allen Hopkins...guys that play EVERYTHING very well.

Only time will tell though, but he's on a hellofa start I think and he looks real good dressed up as a woman! See if anyone knows about that.

I'm doing fine Steve. I'm not saying Alex won't ever be the greatest player of all time, I'm just saying it's kind of early to say that. Who knows, he might pick up the craving for golf like Earl, Johnny, Kim and many more. He might make golf his main sport. I don't think anyone is going to get rich in pool anytime soon do you? He seems like a nice kid and he has a lot of living to do. We'll just have to see what he's going to do.

I agree with your comparisons to all-around players too. I was thinking of 9 ball primarily. My mistake.
