This guy is lucky he’s still breathing. I just finished off “The Other Side of the Road…A Pool Huster’s Tale” by Alf Taylor and it’s pretty obvious that this guy has lived quite the life. Since I have been posting on AZ, I’ve noticed there are two types of players on here: those that long for the days of hustling and think that a return to those glory days is what’s needed to get pool going again. And then there are those that think the darker side of pool is what is holding this game back. I’m not really sure who is really right, but I am sure that Alfie’s colorful stories will help you shore up your position.

This is a very well written book that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you are looking for stories about guys dressed up in tuxedo’s, hanging out in ballrooms, and playing straight pool, then this book probably isn’t for you. But if you want to hear about some real life hustling tales, where the characters are lucky to have made it out alive – you might just want to check this out. On second thought, I’m not sure they did all make it out alive! Hmmm…..nope they didn’t. What would you rather do: go out on the road and risk your life and limb to experience the thrill of the hustle? Or just kick your feet back and flip through page after page of non stop action, while not risking your life in the process? If your smart, you’ll just read the book.

Very well written and I would agree with everything you said.I'm just about to the end of it.Ole Alfie is dang lucky to be alive from the road he's been down.Great book!!! Great reading if you like pool hustler stories. John B.

I read the book and it's well written and how it was. If you made your living as a hard nose hustler hustling pool you took those chances. You had to go where free money was. We went in biker bars, mob joints, drug dealer and pimp bars, and black bars if you were White. You had to know how to hustle, con, lay down the lemon, and make friends quickly with those in a strange bar. If you ran the streets from a young age you most likely would fit right in. I don't say pool needs more hustling, but it does need a lot more gambling or much, much bigger purses, or maybe both. Johnnyt

Alfie's real lucky. Fortunately, he made it out of Morocco alive with some rugs too!

This is a great book with great hustler stories. He sure led a exciting life during those times although not as fun as most of is sounded I am sure.
