I was watching the World Series of Poker last night and mentioned to my wife that it would be cool to have an All Around Best Gambler Tournament.
9 Ball, Poker and Golf or some combination of three games....

Say it's something like a $1500 entry, $300 goes into each individual "mini" tounament and $600 into the all around...and some kind of a point system is used to determine rankings in all.....

Quite honestly I'm a mediocre poker player and a terrible golfer so don't get any ideas that I'm looking for a lock.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what the three games could be and if anyone would enter.

You know, every once in a while someone comes up with a good idea on here. And this is one of those times. It would make a great TV show with maybe eight "gamblers" going at it in Pool, Poker and Golf. From your mouth to God's ears.

agreed

i agree jay!!! maybe teams 8 pool players 8 poker players 8 golfers all post entry fee! high stakes skins? thats a good name!:D

What you are forgetting is that nobody wants to watch pool on TV. Poker & Golf, Yes. Pool, No.

Something else I always thought would be great for pool, would be a documentary about players on the road. Following 4 or so pool players on the road, leading up to an event like DCC would be great. Imagine what something like this would do for pool, look at what Pumping Iron did for body building. Pool needs something like this to capture the colorful personalities of the game. As long as ESPN is covering pool, the game is going nowhere.

Ok, here is my take.

Everyone starts with "x" amount of chips. First to 8th is worth cash. The cash you win is what you bring to the pool table. Then the pool is played like a ring game. When you finish you have to take your placing as a strike against your golf score. 8th place adds 8 strokes to the golf score.

Dunno. Sounds like fun. Winner takes all since it is for the best gambler?

How about an event like this? everyone buys in for some set amount and gets chips for their money. Anyone can make any game they like, including prop bets and handicapped games, on a pool table for at least a minimum bet, raised as players are eliminated. Anyone out of action for some period (20 minutes?) loses chips until he is in action. No one sleeps or leaves until his chips are gone. Winner take all. In order to prevent two players from playing back and forth forever while everyone else is eliminated, no two players can stay with each other more than some set amount of time. Would you watch that on TV?

There is actually a group of guys here in Hoboken NJ that do exactly that. I think they pay about $200 each for the whole day of poker, pool and golf. I know they had about 10 or so people involved and it was very successful. One of the guys that runs it posts on here as well.......

Sounds awesome

I think this something that would be great for T.V. Watchez this would be something that would bring some unknown attention to pool. People might start watchin it on T.V. The televeision audience has been influenced to do crazier stuff

How about?

If 16 players start out. Half of the number is what is paid for each sport, otherwords, the top 8 get payback, and then the 8 go to the next sport, then the top 4 get payback, and continue to the next sport. The top 2 get payback, and then have a playoff of some kind.

Kind of a round robin last man standing kind of thing?

What do you think?

Well...that's just goes to show you, there are no NEW ideas.
Lots of cool input.

I think the idea has merit but there would have to be some changes to make the different disciplines easier than Pro Level. There just are not
very many people that good at mulitple things.

I would have each person/team do a skills test type event in each discipline. I would also bring in mainstream events like bowling, basketball,
football. Free throws, 5 throws with the bowling ball, throwing a
football for accuracy.
If you could get 10 different areas of expertise and then get a couple players from each one it could be interesting. The Gambling Decathalon.

If its just Poker, Pool and Golf i'm not sure enough interest ould be formed.
Crazier things like pitching coins and prop bets would be very interesting.
