All or cue ball foul only?

Do you play straight pool with the all foul or cue ball foul rules? Our league just changed to cue ball fouls since one of our players cant seem to play fair and admit when he hits other balls. I guess the BCA rule book says its cue ball fouls if no ref is involved. Personally I feel like its insane to play 14-1 with cue ball fouls only.

I don't play in a league, but typically cue ball fouls only. I don't like matches decided by technicallities. I definitely don't want to win because my opponent grazed a ball with his shirt.

Kenny,

I think that in 14.1 all fouls should be called, referee or not.
Unless of course you and I are playing and I accidently move a ball at a critical point in the game.
Then it should be cue ball fouls only.

Just my opinion

Peace

Ted

Modified 'all ball fouls'

The ball has to move for it to be a foul. If you just touch the ball and it doesn't move, it is not a foul.

This eliminates the clothing touching the ball or balls foul. Or long hair coming down on a ball and still does not move it.

This seems to discourage a lot of arguments. Of course there are always the exceptions.

This sounds very common sense and reasonable compromise.

I mentioned this a while back and I share it because I think it's a good way to go while playing with your friends.

Naturally, if you're in a tourney, when in Rome .....

But, playing with friends, here is what we do. If you touch an OB, it is a 5 point penalty and you can keep shooting.

This way, you are always aware not to touch OBs in preparation for tourneys or "all ball foul" games but, it's not so severe a penalty while sparing with friends.

Sadly that doesn't help us 400+ pounders when we have to stretch out over the table.

I prefer all ball fouls but understand why CB fouls only is played, particularly when there is not a referee. Even with honorable players, often times a foul may occur that the player did not see for himself, like stretching out over the table and having your clothing touch a ball.

In tournaments where matches are not ref'd, CB fouls only keeps things going and more pleasurable by eliminating a lot of arguments.
