Allison Fisher in Parade

In today's (Sunday, 7-17) issue of the Parade section of the local newspaper, there is an article on whether men or women are smarter. Although, her name is not mentioned in the article (no one really is mentioned in the intelligence discussion), her picture and title as "pool champion" is shown, surrounded by Toni Morrison, Johnny Carson, Marie Curie, Gen. George S. Patton and (echh) Dr. Phil.

Pretty heady company!! Congrats on the recognition, Allison!! :D

Sorry. I didn't mean to be cryptic, sjm.

This was in the Atlanta newspaper. But the Parade magazine is distributed in the Sunday editions of many major city newspapers. I assume the issue is the same all over the country, though I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the heads up, Scott. Hope I find a Parade magazine in my local newspaer.

Most noteworthy is that among ladies of British persuasion, Allison Fisher was deemed more worthy of inclusion on this list than Margaret Thatcher!

A solid young amateur female player, sixteen years old if memory serves. To my knowledge, she's the youngest female that posts regularly on the forum.

I get the Parade (as soon as I get my butt to the store, LOL.) Depending on the size of the article I will scan it in and place it up here so everyone can see it. I honsetly though will not have the time to do this until Tuesday, so I hope everyone can bear with me.

BTW thanx SJM, but I ain't all that there smart....I think even Anna Nicole Smith has a few more marbles than me. :p

I just want to reiterate that Allison is not mentioned in the article's discussion about intelligence.

Evidently, the writer, Marilyn vos Savant (supposedly measured with the highest recorded IQ), felt that Allison deserved to be highlighted with a picture as a woman of high intelligence. Based on my very limited interaction with Allison, I'd say that was an excellent choice! :)

I know you live in the STICKS, but surely they can deliver a paper to your tar-paper shack! Can't they? :p :D

There, I edited my signature for sjm. Glad I'm considered smart either way i suppose :p

Well, this was a pretty embarrassing lapse in memory. Sorry.

Will have to revise my list now, but your "smart label" will remain. Thanks for being a good sport about it.

PS When I was young, I knew a girl named Tanner. Did you know that the term "tanner" meant six pence in England until they replaced their currency in 1972?

I just looked in my local paper, and indeed it was there!!
I think exposure of Allison Fisher in this article is great! Although she's not mentioned in the discussion itself, her picture is situated between Dr. Phil and George Patton.
Good job Allison!!

SJM, I will replace Tanner's spot if you deem me fit! :D
