Allison Fisher joins Brunswick

Interesting.
Shame Brunswick sold their billiards interests. I always wondered what could have been if Brunswick, the Fortune 500 Company, had decided to take a small allocation of its profits, make a far superior product, and undercut and bankrupt all the competition.

Funny how when pool was going to shit, brunswick ducked out, but now that MR is bringing back pool, they're deciding to get back into the pro scene. I've always loved GCs but brunswick can suck it.

sure thats the time to get back in not when its going in the dumps. they are a business not a charity.

getting fisher in the loop wont do much good. they need to get who will help with their name sell tables and gear.
the majority of buyers will never have heard of her or care.

that's one way to look at it. another way is to say the more the merrier. more sponsors, more money into the sport

I think they have a great player rep team now! Savanah is young and full of life and everyone wants her to be the next best female player, having watched her progress from a little kid. Oscar is very well known and respected world over, and his table mechanic experience means a lot in this context. Allison is the most decorated female player of all time, and is still playing great. Wei is a favorite in any tournament she enters.

Edit: and Wei being Taiwanese is relevant also. Brunswick is still considered the top table in Asian countries.

as cheap china made products came in brunswick saw the light as bowling and pool profits declined along with the decline in the two sports.

and boat sales went up.

That is one I’ve never heard before crazy enough but makes sense.
You still need to know what part of the cue ball to hit that furthest spot with. Allison left out the other half to that equation. You shoulda stuck around longer.😉😂

That could never have happened in the current corporate culture. Billiards was down around 1% of total revenue. For years they made crap tables and sold them as premium for premium prices. You propose that they make a quality product and sell it for less? The CFO would have organized the lynch party. There was no "Brunswick" left in Brunswick.

This is a good read. Brunswick started with billiards, and by the war years it was making a ton of stuff, including record players and toilet seats. In 1961 the corp purchased its first boating company. Since then, it has decade by decade purchased and expanded its boating business, while shrinking and finally fully divesting every other business, including billiards. Now, they are only boating.

I guess they did the right thing for the corp.

Billiards would have never done well there in the modern times. The only reason they kept it as long as they did, was for the name. If you go to their website now, it does not even have a history section (that I could find). Zero mention of their origins. I guess that makes sense, since the company is now only boats.

A small sporting company such as Escalade purchasing the brand is the best thing that could have happened, IMO.

any company that doesn't evolve with the times will fall behind. and most will go broke if they continue not to follow the market.

for brunswick to remain competitive they had to farm out overseas and then that meant poor quality control.
now its better.
they had to pick their journey and it was boats. cant blame them. pool tables last too long so its hard to get repeat business from that customer.
and you have to compete with your own products on the secondary market.

But if you go to the Brunswick Billiards website instead of the Brunswick Corporation website, you can still find the historical information and the searchable Brunswick Library. Just go to the bottom of the website and click on "Our History." https://www.brunswickbilliards.com/

Well fortunately after 30 years I play pretty good and don’t need it lol but for a new player it can give them a good idea where to aim.
