At Allison Fishers website she said part of her reguliar practice routine is to practice 10 common shots that come up in the game of nine ball. She doesn't however, illustrate what those 10 shots are.

I can think of a few, however, I'll only illustrate one shot on the wei table as I'd be interested to see what you guys can come up with regarding 10 common shots in nine ball that would be worth practising.

Here's a 3 railer that's worth practising:

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a serious player that doesn't practice that shot. Allison is right, it's a very important shot.

This is another you'd best be able to execute...

She may use Bert Kinister's 60 minute workout and cannot take credit for comming up with the shots.

Dunno about that, but both of the shots above are in the Pro Book. The shot piglit posted is shot #4 iirc, and rec's shot comes a few pages later. Definately standard shots imo.

And I've never read the book that was referenced above.

IMO, an author can't claim to own any shot...

Hey, you guys need to work on embedding the pool table diagrams in your posts (you will get more responses). I have twice seen Allison come out for a match and just shoot the following shot (same general position) over and over - it's a very common shot at the end of a game when the 9 ball is just sitting in the rack area, and you do not want to flirt with the side pocket to get perfect position. I see lots of the WPBA games end with this position.

Hi piga,

In this situation why wouldn't you hit top or a little inside top to send the cue ball straight down to the long side of the nine.

Just curious,
Dave

No!!

I really don't think so, though I would agree that it is a possibility, you cannot control the follow + reverse english as well as (my, I don't own it!) the 3 railer i put up...hope someone else posts the rest, coz

I gotta go home..WOOHOOO!!

The theory is that if the cue ball strikes a rail, then passes through the exact center of the table, then you cannot scratch on the next rail (ie, avoid the corner). That's why you see a lot of multi-rail end-to-end shots go through the middle of the table, much safer.

While going straight up the table off the short rail is a possibility, I agree with Piglit that it is harder to control (both line and distance). It also crosses the line of shape, which makes the weight soooo much more important.

I also agree that authors can't 'own' shots. Piglit you smart :)

Dave

Thanks to both piga and DaveK for your answers. Sometimes it just looks easier than it actually is.

Regards,
Dave

Hi Willie, I tried cutting and pasteing my set up Wei table in a post , however, I had no success. How do you go about embedding it in a post? RJ

RJ,
Per Colin Colenso and SJM in a previous post (which I couldn't find).

#1 - Arrange the Wei table how you want it, then press Shift + PrintScreen at the same time.

#2 - Open Paint program on your computer.

#3 - Go to the drop down Edit menu and choose Paste - there's the Wei table, now copied into Paint (but you are not done yet).

#4 - Use the rectangular clipping tool to choose just the Wei table (eliminating all the stuff below the picture of the table), and use the drop down Edit menu again to choose Copy.

#5 - Now open a new file on the Paint program, use the drop down Edit menu to choose Paste - there's the Wei table by itself. Resize the work area (using the arrows along the edge of the bare work area) to be just the size of the pool table and you will eliminate the large bare areas below the table that have been appearing in my posts.

#6 - Go to the drop down File menu and choose Save - (IMPORTANT NOTE - while saving you must change the format to ".jpg" or the file will be too large for AZBilliards). Make note of where on your computer it is being saved.

#7 - Go to AZB Test Area, and post a reply. Once you are done typing your reply, go to the area below the box and click on the bar that says "manage attachments." You will be prompted to browse for your attachment, just find the file where you saved it, choose it, then hit the upload button. The file is added to the end of the post you have just written. If it works in the Test Area, you are ready to post anywhere.

Note: You can only place one picture at the end of your post. If you choose multiple files to attach, they will just be listed as hotlinks, not as pictures. If you want more than one pool table picture in a single reply, then just build a single Paint file with multiple pictures. When building a file with multiple tables, you will need to resize the Paint bare area before adding the second pool table (or it will be cut off). That's all I know - good luck.

Hey, Willie, congratulations on embedding the wei table in your post. FYI, you can get rid of all that empty space below your image by shrinking the work area in Paintbrush just before saving your file.

Wow, very clearly explained, Willie. Only thing I'dd add is that to embed multiple images into a single file using Paintbrush, the workspace in Paintbrush will most likely have be enlarged. This is done using the arrows along the perimeter of the workspace.

SJM,
I corrected the original directions, I think I'll make a thread out of it so people can find it easier (I'm seeing more and more interest in this sort of thing).
