I played straight pool tonight. Granted it was on on easy 8ft table. Hey I got to learn easy before I start tough lol. Well I run 97. Talk about an epic fail. I missed a tough 8ball. It literally felt as if I was stabbed in the chest.

Well done. Easy table or not any time you can string that many racks together is great!

Very good shooting on the 97.....

And much more praise for breaking through the 100 mark, a run of that nature deserves a new thread though !!!!

Keep it up kid !
Steve

and I agree, break out the camera so we can see your style !!

Actually, there is a lot to gain by playing 14.1 on a 8ft table. The patterns can get tough due to the lack of space compared to a 9ft table. Good shooting.

This is what happened. On the break ball on 98 I had a low break shot so immediately Im telling myself not to scratch. I avoid the scratch make the ball and my cue ball goes up the table about a diamond passed the side in the middle of the table. I had two shots. One was a shot that was fairly simple a 100% make and the other was a shot I can make 90% of the time. The 90% shot also led to another break ball behind the rack that would scatter the balls. I chickened out and shot the for sure 100% shot and missed the next one. So my run ended on 100.

that's true.

excellent shooting to do a 98 then a 100 in short order.

i've had my brain clogged with water well and car problems and can't concentrate on pool. i keep missing my break-balls....

In the last year or so I really started concentrating on straight pool. I can beat the 9 ball ghost pretty easily on the big table but I struggled on straight pool. It seems like I always missed easy shots or got really bad on the break ball. I watched a lot of instructional video's. Jim Rempe's videos on running 100 balls and the one about different break shots helped. I bought mike sigels video on how to run 100 balls it helped but Rempe's were the best. I really got good knowledge from John Schmidt video on the little nuances of the game. One thing that helped me the most was the stuff joe tucker released about the rack and the break in straight pool. He taught me how to be more precise on the break shot by hitting the pack with precision. The attention to detail I believe is what separates the men from the boys especially in straight pool.

that's true. i now look at the spot in the rack where the cue will contact and adjust the hit on the cue accordingly. after the well dudes left i ran 67 and missed an easy side pocket shot on an open rack. considering the incredible distraction of a well fix disaster where the well truck got mired in my yard up to its axles and a monster 4x4 case tractor was called to the scene which left 2' ruts running hundreds of feet throughout my yard, i played ok. and all of this because the well guy told me to buy a control box at tractor supply which burned out my pump. a $20.00 fix turned into a multi hundred dollar fix and now i have to deal with my yard...... can you say "MOTHER ****ER!" in these forums? but anyway back to more important things: once i loosened up my grip and lengthened my bridge, i stopped missing my break-balls.
