Alternatives to the phenolic break tip?

I currently play with a Sledgehammer and have heard that the BCA has outlawed the use of the phenolic tips so I figured I'd come here and ask the experts for suggestions about what I can replace it with.

I saw a Diviney with what looked to be a phenolic of some sort but was told that it conformed to the new regulations. Any solutions are appreciated.

in theory the white diamond supposidly meets thier standards, but most people are using the samsera break tip or the super pro, both are good hard tips for breaking and jumping. Me personally, i say strike on BCAPL and join an ACS, VNEA, or TAP league till they get thier heads out of thier butts. i'd recommend APA, but those twits are worse than BCAPL... :P

From what I was told...the white diamond is illegal too by BCA rules. Best leather option is the Samsara tip...it hits 90% as hard as phenolic.

Thanks for the advice. Can the phenolic tip be cut down and used as a ferrule or do I need to remove the whole thing and put a new one on to replace the tip?

Just face it off flat & install the tip. That material is pretty much bulletproof & makes a fine ferrule. I suggest using the Gorilla glue white for an adhesive for best results. Many have problems having them stay on the ferrule...the Gorilla glue white works best for me. Follow directions and slightly dampen the tip back before you glue it.;)

Thanks very much for the advice, much appreciated.

I cut the phenolic flat & installed a a Super Pro. Then I cut the tip down to about 1/16". It's leagle & still hit great...JER

I flattened the phenolic down and put a Samsara leather break tip on a J&J break cue, also took the weight bolt out, and it breaks great. I like it better (seems I get more power on it) being lighter than with the weight bolt in.

no special break tips needed IMHO!

Far be it from me to offer ANY advice, (please no smart a$$ remarks). I'm no cue builder or repairman but I can and do replace my own tips (old old fashioned way with razor blade, no lathe)
I use the hardest single layer tip I can find (triangle or water buffalo from meullers)
My break is almost my best shot! I make at least one ball on the break about 80% of the time, and sometimes people complain about the NOISE that is made when the cb hits the head ball!! Don't know if its the power of the stroke or what. I use a heavier cue, grip it almost to the bumper, set cb halfway 'tween the first two diamonds on the left on the top rail (I'm right handed) and even with the first diamond on the long rail.
I see these "fancy" break cues with the phonelic tips, actually thought about getting me one, tried a few, still think the leather tip worked better FOR ME.
