Am i the only one tired of "hustlin'" wear and thugged out hats at prestegious events

Mully, every reply you have posted has been SPOT on to what i am talking about.

I get tired of people saying "WELL IM DRESSING FOR COMFORT!" Grow up and get some nice clothes. I have a nice pair of black dress shoes i wear that i took the insoles out of and got a pair of sport gel insoles in them and they are just as comfortable as anything else, including my new balances. I just dont see how a jacked up shirt with some stupid slogan on it and raggy jeans are comfortable, i would feel dirty and silly.

Theres are many reasons golf is a richer sport than pool, and the way golfers dress and conduct themselves is one of those reasons, i assure you of this.

Febreze, you are in serious contention for the title of AZB forum rookie of the year. Keep up the great work.

Again, there is a huge difference between what you wear and how you wear it. Another thing to think about is if everyone has that "F**K it, I'm not gettin' paid" attitude it never will change. I know that if I was in a situation to be able to sponsor a tour I surely wouldn't sponsor a bunch of sloppy people walking around like wannabe gangstas. If we want more money in pool then I think it's important that the poor image that pool has must change and we are the ones to start that change.

Not one person has said that people should have to wear a 3 piece suit and a tie when they join a tournament. Everyone on the "dress nice" side of the argument, from what I can tell, are just saying "Look, if you're going to wear jeans then at least wear ones that fit correctly and the crotch isn't hanging around your knees and no bleach stains or holes. If you're going to wear a t-shirt, hey, can you at least get a shirt in your size instead of 3 sizes too big with offensive slogans on them? Can you take off your hat when you're indoors, that's just common manners, and straighten your hair up?"

The people that are complaining about being comfortable let me ask you this. Is there really that much of a comfort difference between raggy jeans and ones that aren't? Is a polo type shirt uncomfortable compared to a t-shirt?

I've got an Accu-Stats video of one of the Derby City bank matches with Gary Spaeth vs John Brumback. Brumback was wearing raggy jeans, an old t-shirt and had a flannel shirt over top hanging open. He looked like total white trash. Not only is the Derby City a prestigious event, he was on a table being filmed. Jesus Christ, clean up a little before going into something like that.

I know no on is saying we need to wear 3 peice suits. The funny thing is, for regional tourneys i usaully wear something decent. Im just saying people should wear what they like.
I dont think its my place or anyone elses to tell em how to dress. Pool's played mostly in bars and its hypocritcal to expect someone to play in bars their whole life and then all of sudden change up their whole wardrobe just to satisfy someone else.

and saying if we dress up like golfers we'd make as much money as them is just ridicuous ;febreze.

As far as clothing goes it's all about perception. How does the general public perceive us. These are the people we would like to entice into our sport. We need new people to refresh our sport and game.

If we were to have a dress code of a collared shirt, casual slacks, clean shoes (of your choice), we could change the "image" of our sport. As of now we project the bad boy image that is unacceptable to the responsible parents who can and will with hold exposure of our game to their children. As far as the language goes it is a disgrace and totally unacceptable. The F word is thrown around as casually as saying hello or good morning to someone. Sometimes it is used so often in a conversation it's sickening and embarrassing.

This is a very valid point. The only thing we can expect of tournament competitors is that they dress within the dress code of the event. At issue is what that dress code should be, and the argument in this thread is for avoidance of a slovenly appearance, not for wearing fancy, expensive clothes.

I did not say dressing well alone would make us as much money as golfers, but it is a step in the right direction. I said there are MANY reasons golf is a more prosperous sport, and attire is one of those reasons.

I also thought it was funny to point out: I have gotten several negative e mails about this topic, and most of them said just about the same thing. One of them said "look you old fart i know how it was in your day but those days are over". Funny that i am only 18....hardly an "old fart"

I dont see what age has to do with common sense here.

Well, obviously the person was around 10-11 years old, so you are an old fart to them!

Thats the reason i never made it in professional pool, my lumbago was just too intense.

Nah, man, although it would be nice for people to dress nicely at the pool hall this thread isn't about that. It's pointed towards people joining big tournaments like the Derby City etc... and being sloppy.

John Daly is one of a kind:thumbup:

Not defending Daly but they said that the course is his own course, this probably isn't a major interview, AND if more people were to see things like this on a regular basis you can bet the farm that the money in golf would dwindle away. I wouldn't doubt one bit that if someone from the PGA saw this they said something to him about it.

Image and what it reflects.

This reminds me of when my Grandfather was alive and still working at our Gas Station. (He was a very neat buttondown guy who's uniform was always spotless).

This kid probably between 18-22 comes in with a Mohawk ,Tattoed and pierced to death (nose ,ears lips ) ect.

Gramp looks at him and kinda chuckles

Kid says You Gotta Problem old Man

Gramp says no problem here but chuckles again

Kid says I'm making a statement about who I am

Gramp says in a perfectly straight face " I can see that, Your an A$$hole"

I about pissed my pants.

Your clothes and bathing habits say a lot about who we are wether we like it or not. People will treat you differently based on how you are dressed.

This reminded me of a similar story: My friend's father used to own a pizza place in Pembroke, MA and someone called in an order for 10 pizzas the guy comes in to pick it up with a check and my friend's dad tells him "we don't take checks!!" even though they did, the guy returns to pick up the pizzas and my friend was in the store and his dad says "can you believe that BUM(he called him something worse) wanted me to take a check." My friend's jaw dropped because it was Steven Tyler!!! So yes, image plays a small role.

exactly, people can relate to him, can most people honestly relate to someone like Tiger or Phil

Tiger: man, my Maserati broke down this week

Average Joe: damn man, I know exactly how you feel

Tiger: I woke up this morning to take a swim in my Olympic size swimming pool and that damn lazy poolboy left a couple leaves in there

Average Joe: sheesh I feel exactly the same way when it happens to me

I completly understand ;)

So if we're going to have a dress code.....

I say the guys have to look like the Matre D at a fine dining resturant, or wear the black vest, and long sleeve white shirt with black sleeve garters... :groucho:

Ladies wear either the Catholic School Girl, French Maid, or Hot Nurse Mini with matching Nurses Cap..:woot:  :bow-down:

Dress codes will not make pool more popular period. If pool were more exciting to watch it would draw more spectators, simple as that. Back in it's hayday people were desperate for entertainment, today is different and there is no shortage of other distractions.

I think Hustlin' gear and hats worn sideways are exceedingly dumb, but I wouldn't restrict people from wearing them. That said, the promoter can do what he damn well pleases with his tournament and make everyone wear tuxedos if he wants.
