I think we all have read the pros and cons of the 314(old version) Pros: less deflection, more spin, with less effort, better CB control. And cons: takes away from the cues integrity, funny tinging noise when you strike low or any high english shot, and the most common, cheap ferrule that can't take a lickin. Now I am open for opinions if someone has either more issues or thinks there 314/Z shaft is the shizzle. but that's not why I started this thread, it is to brag about the new found love for my cue.
Awhile back I started a thread about needed a longer cue, well I am not going to open that door again, besides I think 'birdy' allready did..lol. So I bought a Josey from a gentleman from this forum. Before that I heard of Josey, but new nothing of the quality. Well it is the best hitting cue that I have owned to date. Now I am not a collector and have only owned about 8 cues in my life, so I consider myself no expert. I was previously shooting with a "Predator Sneaky Pete" (standard 58"). So when I made the desision to go longer(60") I wanted to get a matched 314 shaft to fit the Josey. I was disapponted from the beginning. I was constantly going back and forth between stock and the 314. All the while I befriend a talented man that we all know as Kevin, of "Varney Cues" He has done his share of work for me. including building my own customized J/B cue, which we have all read good things about, to putting his unique tip/ferrule on an "el cheapo" cue (league freebie). to the most resent work of fixing my pin that came loose on my Josey. With a little convincing, I was talked into upgrading to a the new "G10 Black Flat face 3/8-10", and to top it off I was able to keep my existing joint protectors, because he fixed them up too. So I desided, what better time then when Kevin allready has my cue, to have him upgrade my 314's ferrule. Kevin put a new Aegis Ferrule(shiney bright white), and a Sniper tip. I don't know the science behind predators ferrules, something about them being pressed on a shaft that has been hollowed out. Maybe that's where the funny noise comes from when you hit those certain shots. Now it has a super sweet sound and a great hit.
So if there was ever any doubts about the workmanship of Varney cues, talk to me, a guy that found that his skills yet to miss a beat, and I haven't been disappointed either.
Please look at my attached pitures and see for yourself. Next step call Kevin now, I am sure he's getting booked fast....!
