guy Im playing has to elevate to hit a shot, light is in his way. Player on my team holds light out of his way til he gets shot off! I flip out lose game and match because im soooo pissed. Am I wrong! never seen anything like this. wont again because i will never play with this guy again.:angry:

Who are ou pissed at,opponent who wanted the light held away,or your teammate for holding it for him?

Either way, can't let outside factors affect your shot.Acknowledge the outside distractions, and push them to the back of your mind.

??? I'm missing something here? Hell I'd hold the light out of the way for my opponent so he could make a shot, or let some one of their choosing do it... if only so i didn't have to hear about "I only missed cause the light was in my way" Something like that is just good sportsmanship.

Hell, I've held the light out of the way for my own opponent. I guess that's different than having a third party doing it, but yeah, it's a good sportsmanship move. If you're gambling, yeah, that's a different story.

I held the light out of the way for an opponent just a couple of weeks ago. I'd never hesitate to do it again. Just a week ago, I had an opponent get bumped by the guy playing the adjacent table. They were getting ready to shoot and the bump caused them to hit the cue ball. I placed the CB back where it had been, told them to try it again.

It's a game. I'm much more concerned about how my integrity and honor are judged than by winning a pool game that is essentially meaningless in the big picture.

One player per stick. No different than asking a player to make a bridge for you because you can't reach or another player coaching on what shot to shoot next.I would be angry about the incident and be more angry if the league system didn't have a rule to cover it.

If there is no rule there should be.

Your mad that your teammate because he showed good sportsmanship? So would you rather delay the game and wait for his teammate to hold the light for him?

I gotta admit I've been playing this game for a very long time and this is the first time I have ever heard of someone "holding the light out of the way" in any shape, form, or fashion.:killingme: I liken it to crawling up on the table with both feet high in the air and nothing between the player and the floor but air, and that being ok with his opponent. Or if the ball is in the middle of the table and the guy can't elevate enough to jump, someone gets a step ladder so the guy can increase hit height to 7'6", and then holds the ladder for him so he doesn't bust his ass.

Me, if the light is in the way, then look for another avenue to hit the object ball. There is a thing called "kicking" or "masse" that work well, but takes some practice to be accurate. Where I play, you would need to be Hercules to move the ligth that is over the table. It would take 4 guys to move that light even just a little as the ceiling is low and there is only a foot between the light and the ceiling, yet there is still penty of room from the light to the table for anyone to make a normal shot, or a jump shot.

To the poster, you gotta have a short memory to play this game well. Once your turn is over, forget what happened just a few minutes ago, and concentrate on your next turn at the table. Youcan win 5 in a row to a race to 6 and still lose if you lose concentration while at the table. Been there, done that. Stay focused on the present while playing, and foget the past.

Make sure when someone moves a chair or table out the way for a shot, you get pissed too......

The light is no different than any other piece of furniture. Your example is horrible, as they other player didn't hold his cue, make a bridge, or anything else like you state. A piece of furniture(in this case the light) was in the way and the player had it moved. No big deal, play better and don't give him a shot next time.....

I'm considering the table lamp as part of the playing field and any other piece of furniture as just that, furniture.I'm sure someone with some credentials may chime in and correct me.To me it just seemed like common sense, but I may be wrong.

I've learned to never be suprised.

I seem to recall a thread almost exactly like this about a year ago.
Personally, I wouldn't be mad if it wasn't the US Open or the like.

There have been times when I didn't take certain shots like masse shots because of the light, and never considered moving the light out of the way.
I try to be Mr. Sportsmanship, but if one of my teammates or anybody moved the light out of the way for my opponent, I would be pissed off.
It's comical to think about someone moving the light to make an elevated shot, and some dumb **** on your own team doing it for him.

I missread that the player moving the light for your opponent was from your own team.I guess it is a nice gesture on his part but I would have to question him about it at a later time or take a deep breath and just suck it up.

Quit whining... So what he moved the light! Next time don't miss and he won't have the opportunity. Moved the light... Come on...shaking my head...

Yes, you are wrong.

The light should not be in the way. Bar table lighting is designed badly sometimes and gets in the way of shots. Sometimes the pool hall screws up and uses a bar cue to measure the big table lights too. I've had to pull off the wall to shoot some shots in one pocket.

Lighting should not be an obsticle.

Take a chill pill and get over yourself. There are too many other things in life to be pissed off about to bother popping a blood vessel over a game of league pool.

Your right!

There are no aids in a pool game if your not playing in that game..., We play wirh Diamond lights, how do you move them???

I've held the light for my opponent just like I would expect someone to do it for me.

If it wasn't your team mate, it would have been someone else.

See, that one little thing steamed you up for the rest of the night, right.

Should have let it slide and got on with what you were there to do, play pool and win.

If your team mate would have given him a reach around, then you would have reason to be pissed.
