I gotta admit I've been playing this game for a very long time and this is the first time I have ever heard of someone "holding the light out of the way" in any shape, form, or fashion.:killingme: I liken it to crawling up on the table with both feet high in the air and nothing between the player and the floor but air, and that being ok with his opponent. Or if the ball is in the middle of the table and the guy can't elevate enough to jump, someone gets a step ladder so the guy can increase hit height to 7'6", and then holds the ladder for him so he doesn't bust his ass.
Me, if the light is in the way, then look for another avenue to hit the object ball. There is a thing called "kicking" or "masse" that work well, but takes some practice to be accurate. Where I play, you would need to be Hercules to move the ligth that is over the table. It would take 4 guys to move that light even just a little as the ceiling is low and there is only a foot between the light and the ceiling, yet there is still penty of room from the light to the table for anyone to make a normal shot, or a jump shot.
To the poster, you gotta have a short memory to play this game well. Once your turn is over, forget what happened just a few minutes ago, and concentrate on your next turn at the table. Youcan win 5 in a row to a race to 6 and still lose if you lose concentration while at the table. Been there, done that. Stay focused on the present while playing, and foget the past.
