Amboyna Burl - It Doesn't Get Better...

We though some of you would enjoy seeing photo's of incredibly super high end Amboyna Burl from the burl to the slab to the forearm. We just cut these up today.

Here is a huge Burl in the first photo; approximately 250lbs. The second photo shows the burl cut in half so that it was barely more manageable to slice. Photo's 3 thru 9 show the various slabs. Last is photo 10 showing incomparable, incredibly high end Amboyna Burl Forearms numbered 1 thru 4 with 5 being just an acceptable quality for comparison.

Amboyna is the most beautiful wood you can use in any project from cues to knives, to humidors to whatever you think up. And, high end Amboyna is exceptional as shown in the final photo of the forearms. We're glad to offer all of you a clear understanding of what exceptional Amboyna looks like as opposed to mediocre Amboyna which seems to be currently available, if at all.

We hope you enjoyed the pictures and the opportunity to review something rarely shown.

This is not a solicitation. Sorry, these are for regular clients and none of these are for sale so inquiries are not being solicited.

Jeez, that is tip-top! Where does someone find a slab like that? Ha!

Nosiness aside, sweet wood.

Maybe not better, but at least just as good.

That’s a real nice burl. Smaller high end burls which can produce inlay slabs such as you’ve shown are more readily available. That is a beautiful burl! The large burls which produce turning squares are the difficult and extremely rare ones to obtain with high figure. The slabs I showed above are all 1.5" x 9.5" x 19". To get high figure figure in slabs that large is incredible. I picked a good one.

Thanks Rick. It's a two speed – ON & OFF.
It’s 5hp and I load it with carbide blades. The thing cuts through anything. The carbide blades run $225 each and we sometimes replace them weekly when we cut a lot of ivory. They last forever when cutting wood and other stuff. It cut through that burl as if it wasn’t there. The only machine I’m more fearful over is a table saw. I prefer using a band saw any day.

You can HAVE the Laguna..it aint all "that"....pffft

I think it’s all that and more pffft. 
Actually, I’ve owned Jet, Grizzly and own the cheapie Home Depot band saws. I’ve had two Laguna band saws. No comparison. It’s like driving a Chevy compared to a Mercedes. If you do a lot of band saw work it's the only one to own.

Actually, the block was just about big enough for forearms at almost 12"
the big slab would have probably given a few forearm aswell but will be used
for point stock and inlays. I have not been able to buy anything close to this
quality and am glad I saved a little for myself.
