Americans @ WPC

Mike Davis made it. Good for Mike, the Florida Player.

Are you sure? I thought Mike was from Maryland or somewhere near that.

Congratulations. Gabe showed a lot of heart fighting his way through the round robin stage and advancing to the knockout stage.

Well, we always tell him he plays better under pressure, and yesterday I figured if he's going to get there, he better kick it into gear soon, because time was running out! I'm sure he wanted to stay there with Archer, Jones, and Cory still in.
I sure enjoy reading all the posts by all of you AZB'ers! Thanks again! Kathy

He might be ...

He could be, I had just read where he played on tours a lot in Florida.

What is the pay structure at the worlds? Do the pros make money if they make to the knockout rounds similar to making the cut in golf?

Who is still borderline?

What Americans are still borderline from making the final 64? and how soon
will they play? ...

You know, with Gabe, Double J, and Mike Davis coming through,
my patriotism streak has just shot sky high ...

As they say in Pool, 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going'...

Can someone give us a rundown of who's made it, who isn't going to,
and who is still borderline?

On the WPC website, top left, select event information, under it, it lists
a subcategory named 'prize fund', select it and it gives the rundown on
prize money awarded.

Whew ....

Chang beat Valentine, so he ended at 4-3 with 29 wins, Gabe
just barely did it with 4-3 and 30 wins. close one ...

I see where Engert's 5-0 win over Bustamante motivated
Bustamante to get in gear, and get his last 2 matches, 5-2 & 5-3.

Despite Bob's unmitigated attack I am very happy to see many of the lesser known yet highly skilled American players made it through to the knockout stage where they should feel alot more at home in long races and winner breaks. It is still a very international event.

Mike lives in MD... He's just spent a little time down in FL for the tourney's. He's also sponsored by Dragon Promotions which could also have something to do with his time spent down there.....I'm pretty sure its DP that's sponsoring him..CC, JAM??? They'll remember better than myself.

For a poor showing there is sure a high presence of Americans in the last 64.
I think 9 players through is a Fantastic result.
Good luck to them all in the Knockout Stages.

Good call, Tony. Day four was a very good one for the American contingent.

All six US Open champions we sent (Archer, Deuel, Jones, Owen, Strickland, and Morris) got through, and three others also fought the good fight (Davis, Bryant, Basavich) to advance. We'll all be watching the brackets closely and hoping that our American pros play well in the knockout stages.
