AMF table opinions

I'm looking for any opinions on AMF for a home table. With only three letters I can't do a search on it for past threads.

How do these tables stack up against Bruswick, Olhausen and Connelly home tables?

My friend JUST bought an AMF Playmaster from a friend. It is 4x8 and I helped him move it.I really liked it a lot.Very solid frame,3 piece slate.I wish I could tell you how it played, but I was too busy taking it apart.
But just based on my observation of the table,it was every bit as solid as a Brunswick home table,or Olhausen.

I have an AMF Playmaster Oxford model (8 footer). I bought it brand new, and have had it for a bit over a year. It has Championship Mercury cloth, and I don't care who on here wants to rip on it....IT PLAYS VERY WELL!!! I've read enough threads on here to know, that unless you buy a Gold Crown or a Diamond with Simonis 860 - the table is gonna SUCK. Well, I guess you may be able to kick some balls around on an Olhausen or a Connelley, but they are LESSER tables too. Truth is, if you have a table set-up by folks who know and care about what they are doing....you can get a good quailty table for MUCH less cash than the (hate to say it, but) vanity tables.

Let me try to say it in a nicer way...I play golf with guys who won't play any balls but Titleist Pro V1s, no clubs but forged blades, and HAVE to have a Scotty Cameron putter...Same thing with tables really. I can beat those guys with my back up set of clubs, an old Bullseye putter, and range balls, but they still use better equipment than I do, and that means something to them... :)

I would heartily recommend the table I have, and you'd realize why if you were to shoot on it.

Ive played on the AMF tables and like them, Id like to get one of the AMF's used in the tournaments in the 80's (I believe) Ive always liked those.

btw, mine looks like this one, but with electric blue cloth.

Don't listen to those who summarily dismiss AMF tables. Like most table manufacturers, they market low, medium, and high end tables. Stay away from the Hanover and Savannah models, they have alot of pressboard type materials. My advice is to look at something in the Highland Series of tables.

And always remember this, with all tables (including the Diamonds that everyone so enthusiastically endorses) they will ALL play like a steaming pile of crap if the installers do substandard work.

I would have no problems with one like trustyrusty pictured in my home instead of a Diamond...they play well and can be bought right.;)

Fifteen years ago, I built a pool room and put AMF Grand Prix in. The Grand Prix is a Gold Crown knock off as AMF owned Brunswick at one time.

The price was two thirds to half of a Gold Crown.

I had a great table mechanic and covered them in Simonis. They were considered the best playing tables in the city while I had the room.

Well built tables. Never had any trouble with them.

My buddy only payed $500 for the Playmaster I spoke of earlier. It was in MINT condition too!!A total steal if you ask me

AMF tables are pretty nice and cost you less money. I've played on them! however, proper installation is needed inorder to meet the table's full potential. you don't wanna wear an unironed shirt do ya?

I like mine. Just make sure it's level and has good bumpers and felt and you can't go wrong. Plays as good as any table I've played on except the gold crown but for a furniture table it plays pretty close and was pretty cheap used on Craigslist

I would stick with the Grand Prix commercial model, either the earlier one from the '60's or the later one built in the '90's (Gold Crown copy). I'd lean towards the Grand Prix from the '90's.

Last post was April 2007, gotta watch out for those searches when posts come up and replying. At least it was not about what party to go to in May 2007, then you would be really late with it.
