Hi All,

My wife and I just returned from Peru Saturday night after a 2 week vacation - please see my new avatar. The trip was great, but my heart was in my stomach when I went to the pool room to play in the Sunday tournament earlier today...

I went to my locker and the lock was not locked! :eek::angry::confused::( --I carefully opened it and expected the worst, but miraculously, everything was in tact! :thumbup::grin::grin-square::):D Talk about your happy ending.

I have no idea what exactly happened, so I am assuming I did not lock the lock all the way when I left over 2 weeks ago. Whew, I got lucky and am very relieved.

Any other close calls like this you would like to share? Or would you rather talk about CTE....again? :)

Anyway, good to be back. Part of our trip was in the Amazon rainforest - we hiked to a lake where we fished for Piranha, thus the new avatar. (I didn't catch any so I took pictures of those that did).

I've never seen a piranha. Mean looking critter. Do they eat them down there? Did you fly into Lima?

Glad your cues were there Dave.

On a side note, Neal Morrison busted me in one pocket, so I guess it's back to the drawing board. I guess I don't know how to play after all. Then again, the guy never missed any banks or anything else for that matter.

Doug,

Yes flew into Lima, spent the night then off to the rainforest. After we went to Cusco, Machu Picchu, back to Cusco, to Lima, Ica/Nazca (flying over the Nazca Lines), back to Lima then home. Many Inca ruins, Coca tea and little girls w/souvenirs saying "Mista, you buy". They were cute but relentless. I never saw Piranha on the menu so I don't realy know if they are eaten, we were catching and releasing - personally, I would not eat anything that could eat me back... look at those choppers! But we did eat Guinea Pig and Alpaca.

Yeah, I was lucky that my cues and case was still there, thanks.

Neal plays pretty dang good, don't feel bad. He just can't play for long because of his health - you should play him 15 ahead :). Glad you played him - he knows a ton of 1-pocket, I just hope you stayed composed enough to learn from your set.

Glad you had a safe adventure in Peru and that your cues were not stolen. I know how you felt, one time we went to Tulsa and left our cues in the car but put some other stuff in the trunk with the cues (probably pistols and drugs):eek::eek: Just Joking.

Anyhow, long story short, about three hours later I went out to get my cue and from across the lot I could see the trunk was wide open, I walked over expecting to see an empty trunk but there were two Jack Justis cases and about 8k in cues just sitting there in the trunk.:thumbup::thumbup:

One time a friend and I were playing at Cool River in Denver and when we left, we got about 15 minutes away and I looked around and couldn't find our cues. In a panic we called a friend that we ran into there, who was still in the parking lot and asked him to run in and look. He called back a few minutes later and told us that he had gone in and our cues were gone.

Well, we went back anyway just to see if we could see someone playing with them or anything. Well, they were still sitting on the side table exactly where we left them. Our 'friend' obviously hadn't even bothered to go check. Oh well, glad our cues were still there and learned someone's character at the same time.

What a great trip. I've always wanted to see Machu Picchu. Did you feel safe down there? I've heard some troubling stories in the past about violence in the area, but perhaps they cleaned that up?

Concerning Neal...I guess I learned some stuff, but honestly I was too concerned about trying to get out of the mess to pay much attention to what he was doing. At one point in the match I felt like that guy in The Shawshank Redemption, "Cats climbing up trees, 2 +2 is four....**** this place". But all in all, I enjoyed our match and chatted with him afterwards, he's a nice guy.

It's like a national dish - in fact there is a remake of the last supper painting hanging in an old church in Cusco w/a guinea pig in the middle of the table. Too bad they did not allow pictures or I would have definitely taken it. Not bad tasting and could be ordered a variety of ways (fried, grilled, etc.) but not enough meat on it with very small bones to make it worth while to order a second time and a little stringy. You can get it cut up or served whole with the head, teeth and claws facing you when served.

We felt totally safe at all times. We went through a travel agent that arranged someone to meet us at all transportation stations and took us to our hotel, but this was so we didn't get lost. We had a guide in Machu Picchu the 1st day but went back on our own the second day, felt safe - no difference.

From what I understand, Tourism is the #1 industry for much of Peru, so I think whatever problems they may have had were cleaned up. You would be surprised how clean Lima is for a big city. I think there are 9MM people living in Lima and less than 30MM in all of Peru...the streets are spotless.
