An AZ challenge at BCA/Vegas from Mike Page

When (time) are you planning on doing this?

I kind of have plans on playing singles matches so it is hard to commit to a specific time on Saturday or Sunday.

Regarding the instructors tourny....I am not an instuctor, but I am staying at a Holiday Inn Express while I am in Vegas...Does that count?

Actually...count me in on pretty much any AZB tourny, ring game, or whatever.

Just let me know when and where and if I don't have a match. I will be there.

Just kidding. Should be a fun trip and will be fun seeing some of the races with you guys. See ya there. ;)

Oh I'll throw in a few master players that I like.

You're in Todd.

I'll be in Vegas Friday night through Tuesday night for BCA Open Singles.

Any AZBer with at least 100 posts here and who is not listed as a master or above has a $50 9-ball race to 5 with me at the AZB room.

Cornerman Fred? Jude? 'll even throw in Randy G., Scott Lee, Bob Jewett, and Dr. Dave into the mix. Others? Gotta accept online here

Come on fellas, belly up to the table.

I'm not saying I can beat any of these people; I'm just saying I'd like to see a little activity....

Sigh, I'll be there for team otherwise I'd be happy to oblige. Perhaps next year?

me next. I'll call heads.:D :D

on a side note. I'll take $50 action with all azer's with at least 100 posts regardless of ranking. If somebody big steps up (svb and earl) it will be worth more than 50 to me to play them. See you all in Vegas.

2 teachers being equal but one has played at a professional level, who would you want to learn from?

I think a major problem with pool instruction is that the bulk of it has come from people who THINK this is the way you should learn. Most of their opinions are unproven methods of walking the path and many of them even though well presented I believe are holding back the student by telling them the pros and their methods are exceptions to rule and you should do it this way.

you don't have to be the best player to be the best instructor BUT it is a nice bonus and I also believe too many weak playing instructors hide behind that statement while trying to attract students.

Crap. I might like to play but that means 80-some more posts before Vegas. I might have to try my best DCP impersonation . . . :D

I might stop by and try to get in on some of this, sounds like some fun.

Besides, if the tournament follows the same structure as last year, i'll have my days free to wonder around and look for ways to get into trouble! :D

No correlation at all. I just know they can each play really, really well - that's all. Please don't get defensive or anything - I was just saying (in my opinion) that I'd bet on either against any random instructor on here). Mind you, I might lose - but I lose at a lot of things, and often.

The only basis I go by is Joe has a few 100+ runs on tape and Ronnie, well, he plays OK too. I haven't seen any other instructor on here post any videos of spectacular playing... but at the same time, as you pointed out, you don't need to play like that to be a great teacher. Like I said, I love you guys and love all your posts - I was just instigating. I was just saying if you guys were seriously gambling with one and other, I'd bet in that direction - that's all. Doesn't mean I'm not buying you beer afterwards, win/lose.

I think I have the minimum post requirement covered. I'm only going to be there for the masters team stuff though. With the new baby, getting out of town to play pool for any length of time just isn't happening for a while.

I don't know about the rest of the people here, but I know you're a good player, Randy. So, having said that, I'm going to stick my nose in here and answer that question. Whether I'm right or wrong, my opinion is that it would be difficult to teach someone to do something that you cannot do yourself. That would be the correlation, imo.

Just as well that $50 buys a lot of popcorn ;-)

I know they play well also, even better than well. Joe is a friend of mine and someday I hope to meet Ronnie. The only thing too serious is the "wolfing", and I'm buying a round of beer also............SPF=randyg

Thanks JimmyM. I wish I could put as much play time in as I do teaching. But it is as it is. Besides that would hurt my golf game....SPF=randyg

Works for me.

How about a late night instructor's ring game in the AZ room?

We can even find someone to announce it and make fun of our s's, p's, and f's
Announcing? I'll announce! Who's got the microphone?

Fred <~~~ quit playing

I will only be there for singles but if we overlap the last day you are on.
