OK folks, all you 1 out of 10 and better eight on the break folks can make some money off me.

Here is the proposition. I will pay 10 to 1. Since I am paying the weight it is by my rules. Here they are:

1. It will be done at Breakers in Mobile, Alabama. They have 8 bar boxes. You pick which ever one you want. Challenge will be run entirely on the table you select with the balls in the table at the time. There will be no practice breaks. It is just as if you walked into a bar, challenged the table, and started playing eight ball.

2. I will pay Breakers $75.00 to open the table so we do not have to drop quarters for each rack.

3. We will have someone unknown to either of us to rack. Random selection from someone present at the time we get together at Breakers. Challenger will pay the racker $75 for his/her effort. Balls must be racked in accordance with the current BCA rules.

4. Anyone that accepts this challenge must produce 100 ten dollar bills before the first rack is broken. I will produce 100 one hundred dollar bills before the first rack is broken.

5. Challenger must break using any 57-59 inch pool cue of his/her choosing. Break may be made from any location behind the headstring.

6. After each break: If the 8 ball is pocketed and the cue ball does not scratch or go off the table it is a winning break - the challenger receives one point. If the 8 ball is not pocketed or the 8 ball is pocketed but the cue ball scratches or goes off the table it is a losing break- I receive one point.

7. The points shall be tallyed after 100 breaks. I will pay the challenger $100 for each point he/she has received. The challenger shall pay me $10 for each point I have received.

8. We shake hands and have a drink.

If anyone is interested in this challenge please contact me via PM with your name, email address, and phone number. The proposition challenge must be completed before 10:00pm August 5th, 2004. The challenge is limited to one challenger at a time.

Thanks, later, Pel

Pel,
I don't know if gambling is legal down there, but you are sure to get arrested for highway robbery. Keep us updated, but I am sure there are a lot of us who believe as you do that 1 in 10 is impossible. Hey, maybe you could get them to bet that the sun will come up in the west tomorrow ( they believe that 1 in 10 days it comes up from the other direction). :) :)

But, you have to remember, Willie, there are some folks that believe there is a woman who can beat Jamie Farrell playing 9 ball, lol. They just won't bet anything.

Hey, Willie. As ridiculous as this will sound, this very thing happened to my mother in england when she was about 13. She had arisen very early one morning and noticed that for the first time, the light from the sunrise was coming from the west. To make a long story short, it was actually almost an hour before the sunrise and the light my mother was seeing was a result of the sky being ablaze from the onset of the Battle of Britain (1940, I think).

Man SJM, that is one tough item to wake up to.

I certainly am not saying it is impossible Willie. I don't know as I have never broken 100 racks in a row to try. I just kinda think it might get easy to remember the few times ya make the 8 and forget the tons of times ya didn't. Ya know, I really don't think this is gambling as gamblin' involves luck don't it. Some folk's seem to think it is pure skill to make the eight on break. If so, then I'm just paying someone to make the ball and they is just payin' me to watch when they don't :D

Later ;) , Pel

Hey Pel, I wish I had some dough. I make the 8 on the break 3-4 times out of 10 on any table 6, 7, 8 ,9, or 10 footer. I ain't allowed to break the balls no more cause it just ain't fair. I live in a world where anything is possible as long as the medication the Doc prescribes is good stuff. This has been a paid advertisement for the drugmakers of the world foundation. Stay off the dope and live in the real world with the rest of us. Have a great day, Sam

OK, that explains it, Sam. These guys that think Allison or Karen can beat Jamie have to be visiting the pharmacy daily. Gotcha.

Okay I broke yesterday 20 times on a semi fast bar table(dynamo) that
is a decent table.
I made it once and barely missed making it 6 other times. Three times the eight was knocked out of the side at the last second. IMO this is what
should happen ie narrow misses, close shots.
For your bet I think you have set the 10% as the norm when its not its above average. Anyone can make a bet and raise the level to above the norm. Making it on the break is part luck and part skill: mainly luck.
I am going to break another 20 tonight and see what happens. My guess is
I will get just about the same results as last night with no major fluctuation
in made 8 balls.

One thing that I did notice and others have told me as well is that when I break I get more action on the 8 ball than others. The 8 will shoot out and most times hit the rail I am breaking from and go back down table. I watched
another couple guys break doing the same thing and they did not get the same action. Neither made it either after about turns each.

I do think you are putting up big dollars if someone is out there that has
a big horseshoe. I dont like to lay 10-1 too often.
Remaining focused for 100 breaks would be difficult as well.

I haven't seen Jamie play much, but know a litrtle about his game. They may have a shot in tournament play. But match play I like his end of it. Sam

How's this for a counter-offer?

In the APA they keep track of the number of games a player plays, who broke, and also any 8-breaks. In the league in Denver they count 8-breaks because they award a pin each time you do it. Of course, the APA league operators are either saving all these scoresheets, or at least have the records on a PC somewhere.

Would you accept an APA league operator's documentation on one player's stats for one 13 week session?
