An Unfortunate Incident Involving J&D (Jim Lee) Cues

I just wanted to say that I have dealt with Jim on numerous occasions (even when he was sick) and he has been nothing but upfront and professional. Give him a chance.I promise everyone will be happy once they recieve their cues. Southwest has a 10 year waiting list. So does Hercek. Do you think people call or email them everyday asking where their cues are? I know it's a little different but come on. I'm not trying to start an arguement. I just wanted to say Jim is reputable and everyone will be pleased on the outcome.
 
I'm glad he responded. Six months are enough for many cuemakers to build a cue, so I agree pictures are needed to be sent to the owner, publicly or privately.

In no way is any one's cue that has been sent to my shop missing, been sold, or being held against the owner's will for randsome.
I am behind in my work due to issues I will not explain to an open forum of people who just seem to love drama.
The words stolen,theif,crook, scumbag are very serious statements from many that I do not appreciate. In no way am I any of these in any way.
I have been in contact with the original poster and he knows what is going on with our deal.
As far as you Jerry, I remember several emails and pm's saying take your time , I am in no hurry at all. And your cue being a Scruggs, I did just that, took my time for a cue well worth the quality I am doing.
Yes I have stated dates of shipping and have missed them, that is on me. But you name me a cue maker that is busy and reputable that hasn't been at 1 point or another in his career.
Let's get real gentleman, I have a great rep for doing nice work at a great price and have for years. Just because I am a little behind doesn't mean you get to go on a headhunting rant and call people thieves and scumbags. It's sad, most of you stirring the pot in this and many threads do not or have not ever done business with me or the cue maker's in question. You just love to start rumors and see the drama it creates.

Bottom line, cues are here, being worked on to get them back to their owners with the quality I always produce. So I hope all involved will be happy to know this.

I don't know this man and I'm not interested in getting to know him..but I do know several Cue makers and I know business a hell of a lot better then I know pool and this is no way to conduct business. The fact that this thread even needed to be started is due to cue maker missing dates he promised to customers...his words not mine. If the original poster knew "full well" what was going on, why would he would have started this thread...

This is "drama" that YOU created and now you want to berate people for commenting negatively on your business practices. That isn't how it works..If you think Black, Tascarella, Dishaw or Scruggs before retirement or another 50+ Cue makers would have conducted business in this manner your kidding yourself. Most Cue makers I know are busy..very busy with waiting lists and walk in repairs..this is not unique. They keep you informed and answer emails and phone calls and send pictures at owners requests...they don't hide without answering for weeks and then post on a forum trying to maintain or gain back some perceived reputation. And so far its still all words as the people with complaints dont have their money or their cues...just your continued promise that they will get it...how awesome. I wouldn't let you touch my mother-in-laws cue.
 
Responding on 4-21-11 that the cue was being sent out the next day and then getting an update about 20 days later saying the work is progressing well ... I'd be concerned also.

And as far as mentioning health issues and saying "don't be so nasty to him" ... well, if he used his health issues to DELAY work, that's one thing, but to say things as I mentioned above and you still think that's ok? Wow. Let me start a business and after I take thousands of dollars worth of items from people I'll let you all know I'm sick ... thanks for your stuff ... you guys sure are understanding! Asking for patience and time is one thing, flat out lying is another.

Ditto what u said Brain - There have been guys in the cuemaking and /or cuerepair bidness that would get ya in a square ring game in a minute however Jim is not 1 of em -for some reason a lot of people share the brains opinion of Jim and his work. Whatever happened with Slim's cue is not the norm for jim.

I have no dog in this fight, but the entire situation seems ludicrous. Go down to your local Ford dealer, order the Mustang(or whatever) of your dreams, put substantial money down, and then let the dealer BS you for months as to why you don't have your car yet. He's been ill? Too bad, but he is running a BUSINESS. He provides a service. If, for whatever reason he cannot provide what he contracted for, step up and say so, refund everyone's money, and start over again when his personal issues are resolved. No one likes to by lied to, and it sounds to me like many "conflicting" statements have been made. Glad I don't need any more cues.

EXCUSES are like buttholes one is enough!! If your not well enough to do the work then hire someone or sub it out, either way get er done in a timely manner and a professional way. There have been way to many "cue makers" behaving unprofessionally for way to long. I recently bought a new shaft for my Kikel Cue. Dave told me he would do it within a certain time frame, deposit sent, shaft completed, final payment sent, all in under three months with NO BS! JMO!!!!
 
Then you are correct. If it is to see any progress then it is very understandable. If it is to prove that he still has them, then I think Jim's word should be good.

I fully understand what the owners went thru. I would have been freaking out just the same. I must have missed some of the posts. If the words thief and scum were used, thats pretty harsh. Thats all I meant to convey.

There have been guys around here that those words would have been quite fitting in the past, I just don't believe that those words fit Jim.


His word should be good?!? Maybe after these people get their cues back.

11 months and still hasnt returned your cue ? i would be banging on his door , dont care how far i had to drive !

Who cares what you APPRECIATE? Send the cues back to the people that own them, along with a refund. If you are too broke to handle the refund part, just send them their cues back!
 
Thanks for the follow up Randy. I agree to keep the posts as civil/factual as possible even though I am sure some emotion may kick in when we post. I will wait from my buddy if he wants to post all communication etc or hold off as his cue is supposed to be done by the end of this month on this latest delay. Still no pictures yet.

For a refinish and a rewrap no less, that take a week at most. Something is wrong when a cuemaker starts stalling and stalling, and doesn't keep their word.
 
its starting to look like all the unkind words that were so offensive to some might move into the appropriate category.

maybe the defenders of him should send you the value of the cue and you can return it to them if and when it comes. i doubt they will.

all you can do is shut up and wait, or call the local police in his area and file a theft report. it is over the number turning it into a felony. if the others follow suit he will get very anxious to return the cues promptly as your headaches will become his..

Bumping up. I hope we're not getting played (I'm involved in all of this and have been waiting on my cue build a year now) and at this point I think we're all being played. A week or two ago Jim told me less than 2 months so we'll see. I'm still playing this close to the vest to not offend anyone, but I feel I've been more than patient during this whole process. Been without a cue for 2 years or more now. I was sent a picture last November of the butt (which looked great) but no pics since then. I know Jim says he does not do the pic deal anymore, but why not do it to shut all of us up? That would settle all of it in my opinion so why NOT do it???

I know it would shut me up for now and probably would others in this thread waiting as well. When we get no update PM's or emails, and hear nothing unless we send a PM or email and get a little nasty or just bug him to death we hear NOTHING. If the communication was there, probably 90% of these problems Jim has with us would be GONE!

Just my two cents and yes I'm involved and know the players in this thread as well and know the stories, and there are quite a few others not posting that is involved too but too scared to say anything and I can't blame them and wont say anybody's name but my own. But this is deeper than most think..
