An update from the Jr. Nationals (the futures of tommorow)

Is there a site/link with pictures of the event? Curious to see how large the crowds are that attend. Thanks.

Richard Barney

I just wanted to post my 2 cents about Richard Barney and his amazing accomplishment. Winning Junior Nationals is just one part of what I consider to be a greater overall accomplishment, being a true champion. He won the Super Billiards expo's 14 and under in 2006, then returned in 2007 at 15 to win the 15 and over division. Go Richard! Besides being extremely talented at the game, he is a NICE person. It always amazes me that at 15 he is so composed at the table and humble about his abilities. God knows that the average 15 year old would jump at every opportunity to brag about such accomplishments. He does not. I've had the opportunity or misfortune of playing him in our league several times and although he is MUCH better than me, I never feel that in his attitude and always enjoy watching him shoot. I credit his family and the great and talented friends he has at Hagerstown Billiards for his humble attitude. I hope that they continue to support and nurture not only his skills but his winning attitude. I read a post from his mother here and would like to congratulate her on raising a young man with a great attitude.

It's nice to know there are some other kids out there who can play. All I hear about is Landon and Austin, who both play great.

Junior from minnesota

this is the young man who asked Austin to play some onepocket for 200.00 a game. He was turned down. ???????????

Just As An Update To The Jr. Nationals...richard, "the Kid", Barney Won 1st Place In The 19 And Under Group. His Last Match To Win, He Went Up Against Chris Futrell And Won 11-6. He Is Given The Opportunity To Represent The United States In The Jr. World Open In Germany. Can You Tell I'm The Proud "kid's Mom"?! I Couldn't Be More Proud Of Him!!

Richard's Mom - you should be proud! Richard's a fine young man and like some of the posts mention - he lets his pool playing ability speak for him.

And congratulations to Richard's opponent, Chris Futrell. Here's another true gentleman with a ton of game and a very proud mom.

And don't forget Chris Bruner - he won a few matches and lost to Richard and a hill-hill match on the 1-loss side. You'll hear his name again.

All 3 of these young stars are regulars on the Tiger Pool Tour in VA/MD area. I've seen them improve rapidly during the last couple of years. Here are some recent pics:

DAS' A MA BOY!!!! You hit the nail on the head. No woofing from this kid, no b.s. he just shoots and shoots well (beyond well). Like Topher said earlier. All of that play at Hagerstown Billiards are VERY proud. I'd like to see the players 2 and 3 times his age have his attitude. We'll make sure his head doesn't get too big!!! LOL

I knew Richard Barney was a Champion in the making (ever since he destroyed me at a Tiger Tour Tournament!) Congratulations to him on the win. It couldn't happen to a nicer kid. To his family: You should indeed be very proud.

Congratulations to Landon Shuffett as well. Keeping Austin Murphy at 1 game is quite a statement. Landon's got a few more years in the 14 and under, so he will be terrorizing the juniors for some time.

I felt really good shooting on a 9ft since it was actually my 2nd tournament on them. We played on some really good Gold Crowns with 4.5 inch pockets. The tables played really great.

Tanner,

Congratulations on your performance at the Nationals. Did you get a chance to sweat any of Chuckie Holyoke's matches? I see he finished 7/8. He continues to improve everytime I see him. He has an excellent coach, plays at Dr. Cue's in Seattle and his family is very supportive. I look to see his name at the top before too long.
