And Gilbert F/T....

Hello all,

I just hit with a buddy's hoppe style Paul Mottey last night. Brought back memories of the last one I had (18 years ago). Now I'm on a mission. So here we go. I am sending out a feeler for a Mottey or J. White players cue. Nothing fancy, just 4 pt's with veneers, and and irish linen wrap. 5/16-14 piloted ss joint. Hoppe or plain butt. Couple inlays if I can afford it. I am looking to trade my Andy Gilbert (see hyperlink below for pics) I also have a few hundred bucks to work with. Is it possible? Or is it just a pipe dream. If anyone has any of these cues for sale, even without the trade, please give me a PM with price and specs. I'll then have to sell the Gilbert.

Thanks all in advance.

Dom

My Gilbert hits pretty damn solid. I've only hit one schon in my life and it did have the same 5/16-14 piloted s.s. joint. IMO they hit pretty similar. It comes down to the tip and shaft. I have a moori med. on my Gilbert. I still want that little extra stiffness that Pauls cues have. My guess is that his shafts are just a little older? More growth rings? I dont know. Up untill now, I have never played with a cue that hits as solid as a piloted ss jointed Paul Mottey. Then again, I have never played with that many custom cues. Maybe I'm biased, I dont know. What I do know is I want what I want. LOL. BTW, still no offers. Someone offer me a lower end Mottey!

nice

this is a very nice cue don't know much about a gilbert but I like what I see. how much for the cue I am always looking for a new cue.

Hey Bad, the cue isnt for sale at this time. If I find a Paul Mottey or James White that I can afford, then I'll put it up for sale to see what I can get. I dont want to sell it and then not find a Mottey or White as a replacement. If nothing pops up, I'll end up keeping the Gilbert. Hence the "for trade". LOL. Thanks for the interest though. Dom.

let me know if you want to sell it. i have a schon but i know that you'll say nowith that..lolz.

Hey Lorenz, I wont say no because it a schon. I'd say no because its not a mottey or white. LOL. Thanks for the interest though.

Nice gilbert. I play with a gilbert, and break with a gilbert. There one of the nicest cues out there IMO. I noticed you said you liked the stiffness of the mottey, have you ever though of a predator shaft for your gilbert? Thats what i play with on my gilbert, an original 314 that was sent back to andy to do matching ring work. The pred. made my gilbert play like nothing else ive ever hitt with! Something to think about? G/L with the trade.

Hey cueman. I once owned a predator cue. Original 314 shaft. I think I had the 2k4 or 2k3 model. I for some reason did not like it. It was a different stiff. Felt kinda hollow stiff compared to the mottey if that makes sense. My buddies mottey is solid stiff. Maybe its just in my head. I dont know. Well good luck to me. LOL.

LOL, Sorry but no. Anyone with a Mottey players either doesnt want to sell/trade it, or doesnt like me for some reason. I did play last night and honestly it wouldnt be bad to even keep this thing. I wont push anymore. If someone puts a Mottey or White in my price range up for sale, I'll try to trade the Gilbert with some cash. If not I'll try to buy it and then sell the Gilbert. By the way thanks for the bump Lorenz.

keep it

I think you should just save up a little extra $ and buy the Mottey and keep the Gilbert as well. It's a beautiful cue and it will definitely appreciate in value. Start a nice collection.. you're well on your way. =o]

i have had a couple Mottey's and none of them hit stiffer than my Gilbert.i htought they were a little soft hitting actually.is your shaft the original taper and 13mm?

lol, Hey Cyrex, thought about that one, but got my second kid due late august. I'm having a hell of a time saving extra cue cash with my two year old right now. Two kids are going to milk me dry literally. LOL.

Hey Mason, I can tell you that my Gilbert hits stiff, really stiff, but not as stiff as my buds Hoppe Mottey. I do have a 13 MM shaft and just put a brand new moori med. on it. It looks and feels like a pro taper. He has slightly thinner shafts, like 12.5 mm or so. His cue still hits firmer. Not by much, but a bit. My cue is a 2003. I dont remember what year his was made. I have some sort of non-ivory ferrules and his are Ivory with pads and lepro's. But if you say that a couple of your motteys hit softer than your Gilbert, maybe I should keep mine. I have no qualms about how my cue hits, I just like the way his hits better. He wont even talk about a trade, so here we are. Thanks guys for the input. I appreciate it. Maybe this is a sign that I should just step back, keep shooting with what I got, and enjoy. I mean, it is an Andy Gilbert, not a scorpion or something. (No offense to anyone that shoots with a scorpion)
