And the house wins again!

Me and two of my boys (1 backer, 1 player)walk into the local pool hall tonight - we had plans to go out North in search of action, but I said "Nah, let's go here - we'll find something".
We end up getting in some action. $100 a game 1P with a local who plays pretty good and likes to bet it up.
So I'm sitting in the chair sweating it, when the room owners comes up and asks me "Hey, c'mon Aze, let's hit some" - I oblige - after a race to 5 he says he has to go so I pack up my cue and sweat the action again.. They've jacked the bet to $200 a game, and my friend is up 6 games...

I find myself a cheap 1P game to take my mind off of how bad my friend is now playing but the action ends after two games - so a bunch of guys come over and start setting up trick and gaff shots. I've been on the table for all of about an hour... the bar comes up and says "It's $15 for your time".... keep in mind, time is $4.95 an hour, I've been coming to this pool hall for 2 years straight, and spending an average of $40 a day ($14,400 a year), that's twice my rent!
Also, keep in mind that persons behind the bar at this point are notorious for over-charing people for their own motives. ;)

Me: "I've only been playing an hour"
Bar: "No, you started playing over there with [the owner]"
Me: "He asked me to play him, it's his place, I'm not paying for that"
Bar: "Well, you jumped on this table without saying anything, so it's an extra $5"
Me: Okay, $10 total, you've got it"
Bar: "No, we need 15"
.... arguing ....
Me: "You know what *pulls out 20*, here, keep it, take the extra 5 too, you need it more than I do, obviously"

I end up getting into some more action - but this time it's not action.. it's $10 a game 1P and the kid refuses to jack it up at all... I get sick and quit..
At the same time my friend breaks even with his action - and they quit.. and we all go home...

Everyone breaks even, and the house wins... again.. and they even got a small jelly roll off of me... damnit! I need to open up a pool hall so I can start robbing everyone.

It sounds like you have an in with the owner...why not have a little chat with him about the BS they're trying to pull...

You better keep an eye on the game count! Your horse went from 4 up to 6 down in a little over an hour?! Even the jack (making the 4=2), that is an 8 game swing... Wait a minute, was it a Butera/ Salvas match-up?!:D

The same thing was going on here with the local pool hall, I do not play much at the place, but went in on a Sunday last year to meet some friends I had not seen in a while. It was not til after I left that It came to me I was overcharged, I just blew it off.

A few months later I went again, on a sunday afternoon and was overcharged and confronted the house man this time. With his new math and by using the metric system he came up with some figure he pulled out of thin air.

Oh....I'm sorry he says, what was I thinking, it is the weekend during the day it is only $2.90 per hour instead of $3.75 per hour after 6pm, then he charged the correct amount.

So a few weeks later I was playing at another location and someone else was talking about the fact they were overcharged at the same pool hall I was, so I put my two cents in the conversation and so do a few other guys and we are thinking, what the hell kinda scam are they running?

I pass by that pool hall everyday on the way to and from work and I have noticed over time, less and less cars in the parking lot, last week I saw a For Sale sign for the property only?

So I called and they said the building and the lot was for sale, but it would no longer be a pool hall:eek: I asked why and the guy said, ahh the pool business just aint what it used to be.:p

And I'm thinking to myself, that's cause you overcharged everyone and ran off the action. LOL

Some of the guys who play at the place all the time came into the Flamingo looking for a new place to hang out and some of our guys robbed em blind and they never came back. LOL

room owner

yep i get people like yourself, getting over on the man, if you had to pay the lease and light bill, every penny counts, and i am sure the owner, gives his players some slack, as i know i do. he is running a bussiness, not a setting service!!! if each person just jumped on table to play with notifing the man think how much he is out!!!! do somthing good for the man, he is providing you a place to play!!!!!!STICK :D :D :D :D :D

Just another reason

of why I like Bar tables more. You know your financial status, no matter how large or small, at all times. Nothing like gettin almost busted and then finding out you have $30-40 of time to pay for, and the winner will not pony up.

And I must say, if your friend can play 1 pocket at all, a game is going to take an average of 45-90 minutes a game, so 10 games would take
7 to 15 hours? ... LOL and you stuck around that long???????

That is what is so nice about the Flamingo, the bar tables are still only 50 cents and the Gold Crown is a club table, $20.00 per month.:)

That comes out to at least 8 hours a day, in that PH. If you frequent it that much you should know every player and their speed. Even though your "friend" broke even I say you may have been hustling your "boys".

Don't know how you support your habit but if you have a job there is not much time for anything else. Including computer and forum time.

Have you been watching Nick Varner play? Yes, a game can take 45 minutes or more, but many don't even last 10 minutes.

I'd like to know which room that is so I NEVER go there...in PM form of course:p

It's been a looooooong time since I've seen 1 game of 1 pocket last 45 min.

When Efren beat Jason Miller in the finals of the 2006 DCC, he won the three games in 28 minutes total!

Sometimes I see guys shooting pool, so keen to win. Then they pay the owner and I think the real winner is the owner because they collect, here, every game.
We had a fight break out when they changed table time costs during play and we refused to pay the bumped up price. Over a few dollars and I saw that people are not nice over a few dollars. Still, whats right is right.
If you've ever seen canada confront the chinese, its a sight.
Some pool owners are greedy and others are like family.

Price changing at Buffalo's

I played four hours at Buffalo Billiards awhile back and they had the nerve to change table rates on me. Normally nine to five is a six buck special but the monthly tournament was going on in a different area while I was playing. I quit shortly after the tournament ended and went to pay my table time. A counterman I didn't know claimed I owed $150! Make that $1.50. I pointed out that I had been there four hours. The reply was no charge before or during the tournament. I then pointed out that I hadn't played in the tournament. He didn't care, I had to pay the same price as everybody else. Who did that guy think he was not honoring the daily special!

Hu

1 game of 1pocket (especially at a A player speed) can last as long as an hour, or as short as 5 minutes. My friend is very capable of running 8-and-out very quickly - so was the other guy. I'd say the lower-level players are the ones ending up with the longer games.
TheBook, yeah, I spent 8hours a day (or more) in that place, every day. I do know most everyones speed - and I don't know how you can say that when they broke even... it was a fair game, a tough game, that's why they broke even. Me and my boys don't try to steal, we're looking for good action so we can sweat it. My friend (the backer) is in town from Vegas, is a very sucessful poker player and has the $$$$$ to not need to steal in a game where he can only win or lose a few thousand. No, I wasn't setting them up, I don't do that.
And not that I should have to say anything, but I make my money with my business (advertised in the sig) and by playing pool. I gamble too, ya know ;)

Another area where the house wins is poker. The house keeps cutting the pot and eventually the house ends up with all the money. That is why Vegas loves the poker room. All they have to do is supply a dealer and facilities. The casino cuts the pot, the players pay the dealer through tips (the casinos do pay the dealer a minimum wage) and the casino has no risk of loss like a slot machine or other table games.

hahahah thats funny, I know what you are trying to say but its still funny when you look at the grand scope of how much money casino's make.

Seriously, most games last less and the average is certianly not 45 TO 90 per game unless you have two awful slow players playing beautful safeties back to back to back.

YO!!
AZE!!
Are you a rapper? I checked your myspace the other night and did not recognize the music playing.

You should quit playing pool! I have seen the beauties you hang with and OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Poolhall would be the last place I would want to go. Unless you need to catch your breath every now and then. LOL
