Another Cue ID & value

Thanks PD

I'll try a joint protector.

I have a 5/16 X 14; but no 12s

Probably, sort of... thread gauge would be handy because 12 and 14 are quite close over
such a short distance.

I use the shaft of one of my trusty old Hoppes, if the pin goes it is declared to be a Brunswick.

Dale

They are really so close, I agree.

value is what it is, an old butterfly conversion. doesnt matter whose blank it was at this point its changed too much. say 250 bucks.

Not to be a nit picker, even though I am, but this cue - IMHO - is not a conversion.
a leather wrap was installed sometime after the cue was built. Prolly quite some time.
Other than that, the only change is the re-finish.

FWIW - in 1960 the cue retailed for $16 compared to $25 for a Hoppe pro.

Back in those days, the pool room I mis-spent my youth in had a couple customers who owned Katz cues.
The gentleman who had been the second best player in that room still dropped in once in a while.
He told me he had bought one around that time.

I agree, it's not a conversion at all.

When you say the wrap was added are you saying it originally had no wrap at all?

I am no expert but figured it for a refinished Katz with a Brunswick bumper (which I thought was cool). I actually thought the wrap might be original.

In any case I dig the cue. I generally dig the old butteries, especially believe it or not the ones not made by Brunswick.

Great info

Thanks PD and Doc: (any everyone else!)

Appreciate your insight and thoughtful replies.

I put it in the WFS section. Now, I'm sure I listed it too high.

I always hate sellers who don't put a price and just ask for best offer; this isn't ebay (lol)

I'll just lower my asking price to 250. Which I hope is a fair price.

Thanks again

Best Regards
Dave

I am thinking it was born wrapless...:)

I have a handful of old Katz Butterflies, and have eyeballed mabe half a dozen others over the years.
None of them had a wrap. They were sold here by a major billiard table and supply biz.

A quick glance will tell you the wrap is "hiding" the bottom of the lower butterfly 'true' splice,
which sorta defeats the whole design idea.

Both of my double spliced Katzs have the joint lower than the tips of the top butterflies, unfortunately.
This is common with the 2 piece cues, which tells me Katz didn't make blanks for jointed
cues like Titlist did, but rather just grabbed some completed(near?) 1 pc AKA 'house' cues
and sawed them in half.

Anyway - I am in lock step agreement with you re: the old butterflies... way cool they are.

Well, if you haven't seen one with a wrap, I think I may just have something to show you.

I just landed what I strongly believe to be a Katz butterfly with an original wrap.

Single butterfly with two veneers. Butterflies are dead even. Cue is in pretty darn nice shape. Billiard taper shaft.

I am pretty confident it is a Katz. I'll post pics when I get some time and take them.

I am pretty stoked, got it for dirt cheap.

There is no doubt that there is much I have not seen, and a dozen cues is not an
adequate sample size by any means.

Looking forward to seeing some pics.

In the meantime, I am green with envy. :)
