Another cue identification request

I bought this cue new at a prominent hall in south Philly in the winter of '74/'75. I was told it was a Palmer. However, some knowledgable gents have looked at it lately, including AZB's ThePalmerCollector, and do not believe it to be one. One guy believes it is a Brunswick blank. It's 4 points and weighs @ 20.25 ounces.

I went to that hall to see my first "real" match. Hopkins thumped a most unhappy Miz in 9 ball. It got me so fired up I bought the cue and an autographed book by Mosconi. I had no intention of buying a cue at the time.

Anyway, thanks in advance! Don't hesitate to ask more questions or ask for different pictures.

A couple guys were thinking Rich. Chris "the palmer collector" wrote:

"These cues are commonly confused. If it was used at the time, the pool room probably thought it was a Palmer. It's not a Palmer and it probably is a Rich, or something along the lines of a Rich. Rich's were made in New York also imported later from Taiwan after the company was purchased by Imperial Billiards in 1975. They were basically inexpensive cues. I believe yours is a New York version, but it's hard to tell."

But then another collector said he didn't think it was a Rich. And I bought the cue new, out of the case, never chalked.

What's a Mali? Never heard that one, not that I am an expert.

Mali is a New York company that has manufactured pool table cloth for at least many decades (maybe a century). They also manufactured cues from the late 60's through the late 90's. I believe they sold off the cuemaking part (to someone overseas), but still make table cloth.

Thanks for the info so far guys. One thing I hadn't done is take off the butt cap - might there be an indentifier under there?

Does this look like a Brunswick blank to anyone, and if so does that lend the cue to be made by a certain someone?

May be a Rich...just not Abe Rich of Star Cue. Paul Rubino may be able to shed some light on that cue for you. :thumbup:

After viewing the pics again, I'd agree, it might be a Rich. The dates you describe make me think so, also. I don't think it's a Palmer.
