Another lesson learned (the hard way)

Long story short....
Pick up my player, drive 2 hours, get to the pool room early(to avoid rush hour traffic-south florida) arrive at 4pm. The other player has agreed to play one-pocket, gets off work around 5pm. 6pm nothing, 7pm nothing doesn't answer phone, finally around 8pm the people at the pool room get ahold of player, says it will be at least 45 mins-waiting for a ride.
He shows up at 9pm and says what do you want to do?????????? My player plays 1 pocket and that was known before we drove up there. He says I heard you might play 9 ball?????? WE HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING BUT 1 POCKET(my player is older) He says he will have to hit some balls, anyway at 9:30 we are sick of this sh*$ and ask if we are going to play, he says he isn't FRESH and doesn't want to play.
So we drive 2 hours each way(total of 4 hours) sit at the pool room for 5.5 hours and this a$$h*** never had any intention of playing.
Thanks MARK COATS(spelling?) for wasting my entire day.
So from now on before we go anywhere the player WILL post a minimum of 2 hundred show up money with the room owner. If they come here we will do the same.

been there

Work out every detail in advance and then get together with or without the wait and then the other person wants to start negotiating like you just bumped into each other by accident. Maybe foolish of me but I don't negotiate a thing when the deal is already made, either they want to play the game as set up or I walk.

I agree...we weren't playing 9 ball and had agreed on 1 pocket before we went up there. We have to protect ourselves from now on by having them post show-up/play money. NO 9 BALL.

Figures

Sounds like the same type of stunt you might get from about 98 percent of typical pool players.

We wonder why the game and lots of it's so called gamblers have this game in such a positive cheery light. Just joyous wouldn't you say.

It's so much easier when details are all worked ahead of time.Hell who cares if the players have already decided who will win and how much!At
least there will we some actioon!!

That really sucks I didn't think Mark was like that, guess he doesn't like you guys very much or something bugged him out about the one pocket game. Same thing happened to me with the "best" wheelchair player, talking by phone we agree upon me giving up the 8 playing 9-ball so I drive 45 minutes to the pool room at which he was at.

When I get there it's now the 7-ball and he only wants to play for half of what we agreed to before I started driving, I don't fall for the crap and leave while he was mid-sentence about.............who really cares what he was saying at that point. Thanks Aaron Aragon, it's been years since this happened but I still remember it like it was yesterday.

People suck, plain and simple......people fu***ng suck. Sorry to hear about the waste of time I hope you get a better game out of all this.

Been there several times. Good luck with getting people to post "show up" money. In my entire life I have never gotten anyone to post show up money despite being willing to post it myself.

You have been DUCKED and DOCKED at the same time.

Also, has anyone ever thought about the logistics of posting money when you are not both in the room?

Get the money posted with the room owner? Ok, this assumes that the room owner wants to be involved and then how do you get him the money? I'd assume that most room owners are nto going to post the money out of their pocket unless they know one of the players is truly good for it? But assuming you are two hours away already how are you going to post the "show up" money?

This has always been something I have thought about - how do you post Show Up Money?

He is local-we're not, they will have to post the money. If they want to drive here we will post. It's not that big of a deal if the out-of-towner doesn't show, it still sucks but at least you didn't drive 2 hours and then wait all day. A simple phone call at 5:30 would have been ALOT better than not showing up till 9 then waiting till 9:30 to say I'm not playing. Plenty of uh-adult clubs I could have wasted my day at.:D

I get it. But logistically it's unlikely that the room owner is going to ask him for or hold his local customer's "show up" money on behalf of people from out of town.

I guess that's my whole point. You are at a room and negotiating a match date and you both agree to post "show up" money. Who do you post it with? What is the criteria? What are acceptable reasons to cancel? How does one verify notification?

You can see all the problems associated with "show up" money being posted.

I honestly have never seen anyone post show-up money ever. Have any of you ever posted show-up money?

Didn't need to-always showed up.

Neil

isnt that the truth!!!!!!

Hell I remember one nite I just walk into the pool hall to waste some time before, which was across the street, and this guy i knew comes upto me and is like I wanna play you some 20$ sets on a 9ft... I couldnt say yes fast enough, and he's like i'll be here about 6pm tomorrow, so i show up and he finally shows up about7pm.

Then of course he wants to play for 10$ and get the 7 or the 8 cant remember, I am like uhhhh how about we play for the 20$ sets like you said. His come back was he was drunk and knows he cant play me even.... And i said, and thats my fault how????

We finally ended up playing 3 or 4 sets inwhich i won the first two then dogged the third and he wanted to quit, but i coaxed him into a 4th, and won easily....

Then of course said guy wouldnt play unless he was getting the 7 and 8 lol

Getting a fair match in holland or GR is like pulling teeth
