Another of Drawman's favorites: Anyone Recognize the Maker?

Ken Kerner has the correct answer

Bobby Hunter built this cue. His rings are silver checks (similar to Cogs and Sigel cues) and he built the cue that John Schmidt used to win the US Open.

Now that Schmidt has found success with OB shafts, he agreed to sell me this cue. I especially like the pearl accents above and below the ivory rectangles. Bobby did a great job with it.

Hats off to Mr. Kerner of highendcues. You know em all.

Can you post some pics of the whole cue now that the name is out?

I love what I have seen so far, so the rest of the cue must be just awesome!

the weird part is if you were going by how much the ring work would "tell" the maker than anyone who knows ring work would have guessed Cognoscenti. that was my first thought when i saw the pics and from the work i would guess Joe played a role or sorts in the production of this cue. the ring work is Cognoscenti. Joe let Bob use it...............

Doesn't Joe use 30 pieces of silver in his rings for every Cog? I thought it was a play on Judas' betrayal. I didn't count the silver pieces on this cue but I am sure there are fewer than 30 in each ring. In any case, Joe and Bobby shared production space for a time...I assume there will always be Joe Gold influence in Bobby's work.

Another cool aspect of the rings is that Bobby indexed them to all lign up. I like knowing that a cuemaker thought enough of his product's symmetry to allign rings from shaft collar to butt.
 
thats a great cue, i'm 80% sure I have held this cue in my hands-it was at the Derby last year, yes? it u=is awesome, Bobby builds good stuff!!

yes he does. i was more commenting on the similarity of the use of silver in the ring work as opposed to an exact match. i guess i should have stated that..... Bob does do nice work. i'd like to see him come up with a more original signature ring that "tells" his cues maybe like just adding some silver dots in between the silver dashes like i did in the pics below. using the "every other space" method you'd line up the dots with the center of the main inlay of course. i think either would look great...........

I think the every other one looks cool.

In a way it's kind of the same shape as the bowtie logo, so that adds an extra touch of his identity to the ringwork.

I don't want to dangle the carrot too long so I'll offer a small hint:

I shot close up pics of the inlays so you would not see the ringwork. Not that the rings are especially fancy, but they are like a trademark for the maker and might give the cue away. All his cues that I have seen have the same rings throughout.

I'll post a picture of the full butt sleeve and rings tonight after work if no one has guessed correctly.

Pretty cool Skins! I love the concept. Think I might have suggested it with abalone dots or maybe pearl to tie in with the smaller inlays. Your idea enhances and would set the rings apart for sure.

That is, in my opinion, the beauty of high end CNC work. You can replicate the most successful design elements but revise others to build different cues. The cuebuilder never repeats his work, but rather, develops it further.
