For anyone that is close to Syracuse, I've been hearing from multiple people that all the equipment has been sold, and Premium Billiards will be closing at the end of this month, leaving Syracuse with only one pool hall left, Salt City Billiards.

Premium Billiards, used to be called Corky's, and was the first pool hall I ever shot at when I was 16 years old. I remember a friend of mine showing me how to make a correct bridge.

If I'm wrong and some savior has come in to keep the establishment running, please post here. I'm hearing the owner of the building was being difficult in helping a sale of the business, so the future looks bleak.

The tables were extremely nice. Modified rail gold crown nine footers to Diamond measurements to the left, and diamond seven footers to the right. So whoever acquired the equipment has some good stuff.

The guy from Salt City bought it. I expect he is keeping it open.

Well I hope that news is true.

I used to go to Korky's for 9-ball events.
I asked the owner why he didn't have a big sign out in front of the 2 sided plaza where all the traffic is.
He said the owners of the plaza wouldn't let him.
So IMO he was always up agains the odds.
That never helped Korky's business and he suffered because of it.

New owner needs to change the minds of those who won't allow a sign for a business they rent to !!!

It's just plain stupid. :yeah:

That's what the original plan was, but the location management was being difficult. This past weekend, all I heard was lease is not being renewed at the end of January and doors will be closed.

If salt city owner has acquired the equipment, at least we know there is hope for a second location.

Speaking of Syracuse...

As a boy back in the early 90's, I visited my brother for a week who was stationed there while serving in the Air Force. I remember walking to a nearby room with my even younger kid brother. I don't remember much about the room except the tables were covered in tan cloth and the racks had something I had never seen before -- they had a leather pad you dropped the balls on prior to pushing the rack forward. I guess these were used to preserve the cloth. The only other thing I think I remember was that it was in a large steel building but I could be off on that one. Oh and they were watching us pretty closely to make sure we weren't being reckless. I think we walked there twice.

I remember thinking it was a cool room.

It was a long time ago and it was just a week of my life. I only remember two other things about that week -- playing video games with my kid bro on my big bro's 386 Packard Bell computer and eating pancakes.

Anybody recognize that room?

The Holiday Bowl on Erie Boulevard has tables with tan cloth, gold numbers, gold curtains in the windows, etc.
Various tables from there can still be found in houses around Syracuse. A friend of mine has a gold crown, with the gold 17 on the skirt. Definitely from there. Al Conte originally set them up back when it was opened.

A lot of older ball racks had leather attached to them. The racks I remember had square pieces of leather
attached to one side of the rack with upholstery tacks. The leather was a flap under the rack before balls
were racked. The balls rolled on the leather as the rack was pushed forward. The leather folded over itself.

Sadly, I can confirm that not to be true.

I just spoke with Frank (the owner of Salt City Billiards) on Friday. As of Thursday night, the deal fell through. According to a staff member of Premium billiards, a well known table technician will be acquiring the tables, and the kitchen equipment will be going elsewhere. The anticipation is that the business will be closed by the end of this month.

A signs potential size is determined by your road front footage. The cities zoning inspector would have final say or some cities have a position of sign inspector. Unless some special provision has been written in by landlord during the lease signing, the owner of property has little say. It falls within city regulations as to what is allowed. Sounds like it dosent much maater anymore. Another closing

What was their business model? Pool tables only, or did they offer food, alcohol, leagues, tournaments? How was their foot traffic?
