Unlike the typlical pool hustler, who tries to get a player who
can beat anyone in the room and showing up with no better
plan than to approach the mark with a clever introduction
like "you wanna play some cheap?"
Thus absolutely giving himself away as a a hustler.
Big scores are the result of planning and scientific steps
that when taken, proceed from step to step to the eventual fortune
Would you believe that "the Kid" studied the process for two years under the guidance of
one or more of the true masters in the "game",and i don't mean pool game.
No,the master here never played pool,he viewed it as a small time unprofitable venture.
He spoke critically of it as a perfect example of the short con.
Our hero here was a master of the' long con'
To him the short con was petty theft, purse stealing
The "long con" was a thing of beauty
"In a quaint caravan in a far away land was a woman they called the gypsy,
She'd look in your eyes and tell you,you lover would always be true
We',ve all seen the gypsy or gypsy type, large families of nomads
traveling the land working one con or another
fortune telling, the asphalt, business, work for food beggars(making $500 per day
state fair games,rides
The King got a share from everyone at the fair, every time a Fletcher hot dog sold
the King made money, and not just here but from dozens of franchises,he called them
The kid learned that a smart fella could make more money from a hot dog stand than
the owner of a big restaurant, one stand, and he had a piece of hundreds
But the King loved the long con,the game. The chance to make huge profits with no risk
Well,very little
Some as simple as the fortune teller, and others so grand that
large sets of accomplished actors were employed, each playing each his part
in order to entice the mark, or even large numbers of marks ,into putting up large sums of money, sometimes
farms or bank accounts
large elaborate schemes, not designed to make a short quick score, but to acqiure fortunes
From generation to generation these gypsies lived by their wits without jobs, paying no taxes and often accumulating fortunes.
One night titanic took the kid to a carnival in a state fair ,while visiting an old friend, the king of the gypsies he called him.
Now,Ty was well known as quite an expert in the gambling circles, having won million
and more in a week or less, but when Ty mentioned the king,he spoke with an almost childish awe, hero worship if you will
On the way to he fair, the Kid was informed that he was dealing with the master, give this man the respect he deserves, don't talk listen.Maybe ,just maybe i can get him to take you on,teach you the Game. You can apprentice under him,if he agrees do what ever he says
And thus began an adventure away from the life of the ordinary. The Kid would never be the same,no more begging,no more tiny scores,no more getting roughed up for winning
no more hand to mouth existence.
Part one,episode 1
pm if you want me to continue
Many of you are always asking me for more info on the kid
some have enjoyed the story and then some say it was not pool enough
for years i have held to the code and not revealed the secrets of the game
but my time has passed,my friends and co hearts have passed on
and maybe you will enjoy a true life adventure that rivals the' sting'
King con and other works of film or literature
My wife has encouraged me,she tells me there will never be anything like them
but then again,wouldn't she?after all?
