Hey guys,

Just started a new job traveling and I need an inexpensive cue to fly.

I am looking for a 59" sneaky pete. Beyond that I have really no requirements. Just wondering if any new cuemaker would be interested in some practice. I am not concerned with the cue being perfect, flaws are fine. feel free to use b grade shaft wood etc.

Just thought I could end up with a cheap cue and someone could get a bit of practice.

Thanks,
Ian

I would say I am willing to pay @150.

Again I though this might be an opportunity for a cuemaker who is learning to get some practice.

Kinda similar to a college co-op in the real world.

I would recommend finding someone local. If they can't make a cue at your price point. You may be able to buy a cheap import cue and have they finish it out for you.

So basically a long thing that breaks down into two pieces and has something resembling a tip. Heck, even I can do that. What's your shipping address?

cancel this request guys, clearly was a bad idea. I'll just spend the $400 and get a sneaky from someone who has been building for 20 years.

Sorry if the responses come across harsh pardner but your post almost sounds like you think you are doing someone a favor by letting them work cheaply. It takes time, money , skill, and patience to build even a fairly descent cue, and the less experienced guys probably put more time and money into it than the skilled ones, due to trial and error, mistakes, etc,, Cuemaking is a hard way to make money. There are just a very low percentage of them who can actually earn a living at it, with the high majority doing it part time, and likely making less per hour building cues than they get on their regular job, but they are paying their dues, perfecting their trade and hopefully building a rep,, which is huge if you wanna get a descent price for your work. There is no shortcut to building a good cue. It all takes time and time is money, not to mention the materials involved, which could quite easily absorb the $150 budget you offer. Get yourself a Players or Kaiser or the like for the road trip and when you need a nice custom there are plenty of guys here who can accommodate you.

I hope you understand,,,,,,

I do understand. Experience demands more money regardless of how much time it takes. My 40hrs today are worth much more than my 40hr were 15 years ago. The only difference is experience. I remember co-oping in college for very low wages. It was the experience that was of value, not the pay. I thought this would be a way for a win/win. Someone gets paid to practice a hobby/career they want to pursue and I get an inexpensive cue with possible flaws.

All I know is I can get a flawless sneaky from a number of cuemakers with 20+ yrs experience for @400.

again, sorry for ruffling any feathers, I will just go the route of an established cuemaker.

take care,
Ian

Call Schmelke, a very experienced cue shop that will make a somewhat customized sneaky for $150ish. Their "pro taper" maple shaft plays well imo.

I think the folks on here are giving this guy way too much crap. If you don't want to build it then bug off.

He simply asked if anyone was willing, like someone starting out. There are tons of folks who are starting out that would like to do something like this.

People crack me up, nothing ever good to say, only to piss and ***** about things.
