any one?

Every hall I have played at has at least one or two three cushion players, but almost nobody plays regular caroms anymore.

Asian or Latino halls in big cities seem to be the only places I've seen where caroms, straight rail, is played with any regularity.

Yes, I do. I live in Los Angeles. Out of the hundreds of 3c players I have found only five serious straight rail players, if you do not count casual players who play Korean Four Ball.

Here is a youtube channel with lots of non 3c carom footage: http://www.youtube.com/user/BillardFriend?feature=mhum

I will do my best to see that Caroms does not completely die where I live, but to be honest it seems like it is in a really bad Coma.

As far as 'simple' games go, I only see 4-ball around DC.

That said, there are quite a few places around here to play.

I love to play Libre (free game) carom, so far, only find carom tables at Asian pool rooms. Anyone know where I can find a good cue for Libre discipline ? Practicing the rail nurse but the 3cushion cue I have is too heavy for these techniques.

I often practice straight rail when I'm alone on the carom table.

BTW, you may notice that the original poster in this thread is now banned. If you look at his posts, they were all innocuous to the point of content-free. The only reason he posted any of them was to get to the 25-post minimum required to view a few forums. The problem of the outbreak of newbies posting vapor is being discussed in the main forum.

At the hall I frequent we actually have a pretty good following for 3 cushion. The owner is a very good player along with some of his long-time friends, quite a few customers picked up the game years ago apparently and have gotten pretty good at it. Being part of the "newer/younger" crowd, I picked up the game and have been trying to further its popularity among people my age. Not too many straight rail players, even I've only played it a few times. Carom games are good stuff though, helped me to learn a lot.

I can still find someone to play most anywhere I travel but it is mostly old guys (like me), Asians, or Hispanics. The game has had no following in the States for a LONG time.

Rail Nurse

Absent an instructor, I have been trying to learn the rail nurse through You Tube instructional videos. Results so far have been modest but encouraging. I particularly recommend the videos by Couespell. Though in French they are easy to follow for non-Francophones because he does a lot of eloquent pointing with his fingers to indicate contact points and spin. Here is a link to Part 1:

Thank you Dean,
have you shot with Layani cues before? Found Layani cue for Libre discipline at www.caromcue.com , but they advertised min. cue wt. = 470gr. I heard for straight rail techniques, the cue should be around 470-480gr. is that right? Thanks for any advise

I have not had the chance to play with a Layani cue.

As for the weight of the cue it sounds right.

First of all i believe this thread is so wrong. We know that all types of carom games are for intelligent players and that's it.The only thing i want to say is that i am waiting to play with a Hanbat cue pretty soon. The Koreans are landing in Europe soon.Wait for the news...
