Any Pro Players Play With High Dollar Cues?

Are there any? I saw Efren's cue at the Derby, and it looked pretty basic. Seems like most of the really good players are using something with a low deflection shaft that's pretty basic.

There have been a lot of cue threads lately that got me to thinking " What top player plays with a really high dollar cue? "

I've owned several cues in the $3000. to $7000. range and frankly have customs now that only cost a tenth of that and play better, much better.

I think the price of some of the cues I've seen for sale are seriously inflated. I also understand the economics of keeping the price of those cues where they are, because some people could lose a lot of money. I learned the hard way that just because a cue costs a lot and was made by a certain cue builder doesn't mean its going to play good for me.
Most pro players would not pay thousands for a cue if you held a gun on them. If a cue makers gives them one it is likely they will turn in into cash at the first opportunity. I know because I have bought a lot of cues from players I know were given to them. Szamboti actually "GAVE" a cue to world champion player for nothing that I bought for $350.00 later because the guy wanted to go to the track. He valued that gift from Szamboti as nothing, he would rather make a bet on a dog.

Ralf Souquet is sponsored by Danny Janes of Joss East cues and he's never played with a Bill Stroud Joss West cue. Joss East builds production cues in the lower price range and they build special cues for Ralf. Joss West cues are high end customs.

Actually, Joss East hasn't been around since Dan renamed the company Joss Cues, LTD many years ago.

If Efren is still playing the full splice cue that is wrapless that he played in Galveston,it is not a low deflection cue.Cabe,Jeremy and Scott Frost are playing Bob Owem cues not low deflection
In fact I don't recall seeing any in Galveston.I didn't know many players but the few I knew were playing the same stuff we played years ago

Was that Danny D he liked to bet the dogs?

I met a few players in a tournament in pattya, Thailand last week-

Stevie Moore used South West
Lee Van Cortezza- Diveney(no low deflection shaft)
Dennis Orcullo- Dan Dishaw(no low deflection shaft)
Ronnie Alcano- Tiger X cue with Ultra shaft
Lu Hui Chang from Taiwan play with South West
Fu Chei wei South West( He had Finish put on the linen like meucci to get wrapless feeling)
Efren also told me name of the cuemaker he is playing with but i forgot.
His butt and shaft were not matched though.

I've observed the same thing on many occasions as well

I have shot with a low deflection shaft for a couple years but stopped because I asked why hardly any of the pros dont shoot with them and I was told the hollowness and weightlessness of the top of the shaft by the ferrule makes for horrible masse shots because you need the weight to get the action. Since I switched I can definitely tell a difference... LD shafts are over rated in my book

I think the pros back in the 70's & 80's played with high end custom cues a lot more than the new pros do. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the input and i'd like to clarify that I used the word "East" to be sure everyone knew it wasn't a Joss West cue. Joss Cues is referred to as Joss East sometimes, but you are right the correct name is Joss Cues.
