Any reviews on SVB's video on his aiming system?

There is a new Video out that can be downloaded $15 and it's produced by TAR with SVB (and Jennifer Barretta) going over how he aims up his shorts.
I was looking for reviews on that Video?

I have watched it and like the quality of the video and the graphics. For the system it doesnt work for me and when he goes into using english he doesnt go into showing how he uses different parts of the shaft for outside english, probably easy to figure out though.

He shows how a different shaft deflects more so you have to change what part of the shaft to use to aim.

Cant really give a great review cause i dont use the system but the info is there, Shane makes it look easy and keeps it simple. Wished he could of broke a few racks and go into detail of the system as he ran the balls though

if talk about Shane's system, what confused me when he described it in detail in this video (I've heard basic concepts from his TAR podcast appearance) is how it is possible to aim 1/4 and 1/3 of the ferrule. I can even claim that the difference is so slight that it's close to mix these up. I've just calculated, and namely we are talking about 1 mm difference between those (3.25 mm is 1/4, 4.3 mm is 1/3 of a 13 mm ferrule).
Had these been center/left/right edge of the ferrule, that would make more sense.

I think noone except Shane himself could learn to use this system, hence no reviews. With all respect to an awesome player he is, everybody just said "alright" having watched the way he is aiming and are waiting for his breaking and mental game dissected. I think breaking will result in more buzz around and reviews will be there for sure. Not so with aiming.

From SVB's TAR explanation of using the side of the ferrule/shaft to aim, I wondered how he aims a few degrees to the right or left.

Thanks for the review
.. and that he uses fractions of the ferrule. I agree that fractions would only change the shot angle by a couple of degrees. I would now think that he might have aimed off the ferrule as well.

I hope he makes a lot of money.

the way he describes some shots the geometry does not work. SVB subconsciously aims his ferrule at the point that will MAKE THE BALL(not the contact point). The edge of ferrule to the edge of the ball CANNOT make the ball on some of the cut shots he describes. He uses the aim point as a STARTING POINT/TOOL then adjusts a little. I use basically the same technique. You must practice and make the subtle adjustments. If you aim exactly as he says in video you will see for yourself it is slightly off on several shots. At the end of the day its still the best way for me to play/aim after getting use to the slight adjustments.

I purchased the TAR Shane Aiming PPV and watched it a twice.

The production value was excellent. The best I've ever seen on a pool video. It was 720p HD video with a bitrate of 5Mbs. I'm learning what all these numbers mean, and this is pretty high quality stuff. If your internet speed is not fast enough to watch it live, you can let it buffer for a few minutes, and then watch the whole thing very clearly. You can also download it to your hard drive, and come back later and watch it from the hard drive.

Regarding the instruction, Justin stated this is how Shane does it. This is for the Shane fan that wants to see what he does. It is not per say an instruction set for the viewer to then take to the table and utilize a specific technique. (like other aiming systems are).

Video overview: (note, section numbers are mine...)

Section 1: Shane goes over the fundamental basis of his system: How he developed it himself, and the visual aspects of it. This is great information for the critically thinking viewer, and you can use it to come up with a method for your own game. I think most people will skim right over this section, where he describes the shot he developed the system with when he was a kid. In my opinion, that one section is the crux of the whole method. He then spends the rest of the video showing examples of this visual system as described below.

Section 2. There are about 10 shots set up of various cut angles and both left and right cuts. Shane goes through each shot and explains his aiming visuals on each of the shots. After each shot of Shane speaking and shooting, the video cuts to a graphic representation of what Shane just described.

Section 3. Then he explains his aiming visuals on shots with english.

Section 4: Then he explains his aiming visuals using a standard deflection shaft instead of his low deflection Cuetech shaft. The viewer can use this section to understand how Shane switched from his Joss shaft to the Cuetech.

After watching the video, my conclusion is Shane is a feel player. He uses his feel to line up a shot, and then matches up a visual with that feel to keep him locked into that aim line while stroking.

This video won't teach you to "put your stick here, put your eyes there, pivot there, etc.". What this video will do is let you into the mind of a top tier player, and show you his method. If you choose to, you can use what he does in your own game. But you will have to calibrate it to your "feel". It changes every single shot, every single stroke, every single english, etc.

I recommend the video with the caveat as stated that it is not a step by step instructional. You buy it for 3 reasons IMO: 1. You want to support TAR and Shane. 2. You are a critical thinker and want to see if there is anything you can transfer from what Shane does into your game. 3. You are just a fan of Shane and are curious how he does things.

I thought the video was well done and would like to see more. It could've been twice as long to explain a few things a little better. I would've paid the extra costs to get a little more info about Shane's system.

As was posted earlier, I would've like to see Shane run a few balls and provide some commentary while moving the cue ball around the table. His instructions for using english were too short coupled with compensating for different shafts. Also, what adjustments does he make for distance?

I set up several of the shots on the video and found that there are small adjustments necessary or you'll under cut some shots. I wonder if he's even aware he's doing this? If he is, he didn't mention it.

A Part II would be worthwhile or extending the download and offering it for an additional cost to current subscribers. Hopefully quite a few have purchased the download and made it a profitable venture. Overall, I definitely thought it was a quality product at a great price.

Best,
Mike

Good production quality, mediocre instructional value at best. The price is so modest it's probably worth purchasing if your expectations are at the right level.

i share the sentients of everyone when I say its an OK video. Production quality and 3d graphics are nice although not up to the level of say "Mastering Pool with Mika Immonen" which i believe to be the pinnacle of quality. In my opinion Shane uses his system to kinda double check his feel. I highly doubt he aligns and checks his shaft on every single shot. His use of "from my experience" is really a teller. Watching shane hit balls in crystal clear HD quality is worth 15 bucks though
