Any Schon experts?

I don't know if the pictures even uploaded correctly or not, but I have an old Schon here and I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on exactly what it is. I can't seem to find it in any catalog. I do know that it's from prior to 1988, it has micarta ferrules, and I've never seen this ring work on a Schon before. Just curious and thanks for any information.

I had one very similar to that and wish to god I never would of let it go. Played amazing. I talked to a guy at the Schon factory about it and he said they used to make them in batches of like 10-20 at a time and they may have changed one thing or another with each batch.

The one I had had a thin butt and he said thats how they controlled the weight of the cues. Lighter cue just got turned down a little. Very nice cue you have there. But for the love of OCD people everywhere clean those micarta ferrules. :D

Edit: It also occurred to me that with a cue that old a joint repair is not out of the question at some point in its life explaining the unusual looking ring

This has been hiding in a closet since 88, but prior to that idk.

Edit: thanks for the information on the cue. Any idea as what fair value would be?

Nice cue.....any Schon predating 94' is a great stick no matter what it looks like. The newer ones just don't compare ...pure and simple!

Heres a very early full splice w/ sharp even points, macassar ebony w/2 original non logo ivory ferrule shafts. I've never seen one like it. Any interest out there? Tim 919 247 3391

Interesting, never seen one with a black butt cap before.

Bob made some of those full splice, sneaky pete style cues back then, not sure how many but my old pool partner used to buy and sell Schon cues and had several over the years. One looked just like a sneaky pete, one was full splice with a little more detail, and one had a grayish stain and only had 2 points but was one of the best hitting cues I've played with.

Both of my Schons are older - 1987 and 1991 - and both are fantastic. Have never had a reason to switch to another cue. Not sure what yours is worth today, I know at the time those types of cues were very reasonable because of the simple design, around $300. Probably worth a lot more now.

I've mentioned this before,as well as the fact I could be wrong.

I think I've seen that cue in person before. If that is truly it,that cue belonged to Strong Arm John at one time. I saw it in Memphis years ago,and John said it was a one of a kind.

This style cue, maybe even THAT one,was the reason they came out with the SLX model years ago.

The SLX was the forerunner of the Black Widow/BW2. Basically same cue as originally shown, but had the standard silver rings in the collars and was cocobolo/maple instead of ebony like the BW. It also had rounded points, and an ebony diamond shaped inlay over the seam between the bottom edge of the points and the top of the cocobolo handle section.

JCIN posted pics of his a while back. Tommy D.
