what do you do to stay focused while long waits during pool turneys i can never stay focused while waiting a few hours to play my next match any ideas or suggestions or what works for you thanks

I've played my share of day long - weekend long tourneys... Sucks. I usually try to find a quite spot at the bar to either watch tv or play on my phone to kill time and try to relax. Find some decent food and not drink too much alcohol....

anything non pool related, if the season is right take your fishing pools, cold weather is always a good time to find a nearby chili's and watch some football on the bigscreen.

If there is a 3 cushion table i Like to go play that in between matches, watch TV, sports usually. go watch the hottest girl in the room play, when that is possible of course, or hopefully find a card game with friends to kill the time.

Watch some of the better players matches by yourself and visualize playing the racks in your head. Watch them as well. Then hit a few racks every hour so you don't get stiff

Good suggestions here. Eat lightly....no alcohol....take a power nap...find a quiet spot for meditation.

Very good advice here. But it's whatever works for you. If I know there is a long delay, I'd prefer to leave the poolroom, even go for a walk and explore the neighborhood. You might be surprised what you discover right down the street. Then come back in time to hit balls and warm up before your next match.

Just the fact your aware u lose focus during a long break between matches is huge. My problem I get so anxious by time i get to the table i am wore out. The harder i try to relax the more anxious i get so now i just accept it and play with the knowledge im on tilt. just being aware of my state of mind helps me get straight faster. Plus once u have a strategy with dealing with a problem just have faith in your strategy and that by itself helps u get in stroke mentally faster.

I don't try to stay focused between matches. Just gotta know you have to play yoiur game when you are up, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Just gotta put forth best effort.

Perhaps staying in that heightened state-' focused'- burns one out quicker, I dunno, just feels better to me when I come into a set fresher.

That tourney pool is tough. you gotta win every time you get a turn, if you want to be a contender.

I think BlackBalled has it right. Focus is a limited resource. There's no reason to burn it up when you're not even playing. You'll just tire yourself out mentally.

Treat it like gas in a gas tank. Do something mindless and fun, something that won't use up your focus or distract you when it's time to shoot.

It's fine to just mess around with a cell phone game if you want, but don't get so engrossed in it that you're thinking about the game when you need to shoot. Or go get food, but don't eat something heavy that will make you feel like puking every time you lean across the table.

Don't get too hung up on hitting balls between matches. You're not gonna forget twenty years of shooting experience over the course of a few hours. Don't get superstitious about it like "I didn't hit any balls so now I'm ice-cold". You only need like a half dozen shots to adapt to the speed of the table and how the cue ball or cushions play. And if you don't get a chance to hit those six balls, figure it out as you go.
