Anybody play any Pool 300 at the SBE?

I played it and had a lot of fun. I didn't do very good but scored a 48 for the first time ever playing it. Almost won a set of Magic Racks. The last player of the night beat my score.:(

budonahog...48 is a very good score, especially for a first try. The elite pros who played this on camera last May in Vegas were only scoring 50's and 60's. Nobody even got close to a perfect match (90...all strikes/runouts).

I can't believe nobody else from here, who went to the SBE, didn't try out this game. All offense...no defense...just you against the table. BTW, this is a new league concept, and the league organizers are guaranteeing that 50% of the teams in any league area, will advance to Vegas, to play in the BCAPL championships at the Rio in 2013 (airfare, hotel and entry paid). That's a pretty phenomenal carrot! Anybody interested in knowing more about this league, PM me.

You don't have to hit the lowest numbered ball first, but you have to pocket the lowest number first.

Does anyone have any sense for why they did it this way? Every other rotation game goes the other, i.e., that you have to hit the lowest ball first, correct?

Edited to add: Actually I'm going to take a stab at this. Since there's no defense, you have more chances to continue your rotation run if you can use any other ball on the table as the first ball in a combination/carom. How's that?

I don't know, but it is a little odd, especially when your brain is go geared to the other way... I can't see where it would make a difference really, but assuming there must be some reason.

I like the concept, they were trying to get a league going in the area but it was on a bad night for me. I don't like a lot of other league formats, but this one is intriguing.

Funny thing, the APA is starting a strike six league here in balto. , very similar rules. How big is pool 300 across the country?

I tried it at the SBE and from what was explained you had to hit the lowest numbered ball first and it had to be pocketed so if you had two balls tied up, you could not just hit the highest number first.

As Neil said, those were run killers as each rack I had were clusters I could not break out.

When you miss on your strike attempt, then you take BIH and you can run the remainder of the balls in any order for your spare.

Anyway that is what I remembered.

I think someone misled you.

From their rules at http://pool300.com/wp/?page_id=29:
Pocket the balls in numerical order. It is not necessary to hit the lowest number balls first, but the lowest number must be pocketed.

Well that was the guy running the league. And he was very clear on that. Interesting that the website has different. For the innings I played that would have made all of the difference in the world, cause on two racks I had dead combo's in the corner that I could not play because the higher ball would be pocketed.

Funny how ?

I don't know the answer to your question.

The question is "how big is pool 300 across the country"? Funny was meant as sarcastic, as is pool 300 big enough and popular enough that the apa would have to develop a similar game to compete against it.

Tony...I think you misunderstood Scott. In your first inning you MUST pocket the lowest numbered ball on every shot. You are NOT required to strike the lowest number ball first. If you don't run out 10 ball, then you take ball in hand and run out 14.1.

Dave...Pool 300 is brand new. They have had a league going in Dallas for the past year. It is getting started in just a few areas around the country, and territories are wide open for anyone interested in starting a league in their area. The league is owned by the founder of OB Cues.

budonahog...I wasn't able to attend this year. Were there many people who tried it out, that you saw?

Hey Scott,

The board that they kept track of scores seemed to be full but it didn't seem like there were a lot of people lining up. When I signed up, there were 3 people ahead of me and that was around 7 at night and they closed up shop at 8. It was a lot of fun.
