Simple question. You are in a tournament and make the finals. You didn't buy yourself in the Calcutta and you have no connection to the guy who bought you. The other player comes to you and offers to split the money for first/second and the Calcutta if you will dump and in the process screw the guy who bought you in the Calcutta.

Only first place pays in the Calcutta and it is more money than first place tournament money.

I misspelled Anonymous - oh well.

This may a unanimous poll for option 3......
...the ones who would vote for one and two are busy.....
...mugging old ladies and rolling drunks

No, I wouldnt cut up the guy that bought me in the Calcutta. But also if you are strong player why in the hell didnt you buy 1/2 back? This isnt all adding up to me.

That is worse than the Jeanette Lee calcutta move she made years ago.

You are assuming everybody who responded to the poll is a strong player.

Great topic. More info would add to the discussion. Is the good player as broke as most? Is the good player at risk of personal damage if caught? Is the good player a local? Or a pariah? Is this just a question of ethics?

I have been in all spots. Calcutta buyer, winning player w/o buying half of myself, and victim of the dump. Answer to the not buying half is easy; big calcuttas are expensive for most pool players. Prohibitively so. More than five times the tournament entry quite often. Add that to a player that knows they are not on top of their game.
The dump; i was watching a group of players that traveled together and had tried to buy each other in the pool. One player, the best player, went quite high. Not to the group. Last three in the tournament had the two of the group playing for 2-3. The good player dumped to the buddy that the group had in the calcutta. Allowing the 2nd best to move forward and snap off first.
