wondering if i should flatten the phenolic ferrule/tip and add a white diamond tip for better performance.

has anyone done this before?

To be honest, I have never heard of anyone ever wanting to alter a Lomax. Everybody I have talked to says it is the best jump cue out there as is. You could always ask him. He is stevel on these forums, and is generally very helpful and fairly quick to get back to you.

a friend of mine built me a real nice j/b and he capped the phenolic ferrule and put on a white diamond tip.....awsome!

agree

I have a lomax jump cue, and I wouldn't change a bit about it. The bungee tip is similiar to the WD that it isn't a pure phenolic, but a bit of a hybrid.

I am in the works to get a shaft to fit my Schon LTD for breaking, and asked about WD on top of a phenolic ferrule and Steve Lomax said I would get better performance with the bungee than the WD.

I am thinking of doing this to my Varney J/B. The cue smashes the rack on it's own, but not only do I think it'll look cool, but I know it won't hurt.

Many, many people have had numerous issues with the WD tips popping off when simply glued on to a ferrule. Sure there are those who'll chime in and say they have no problem...but its mostly a matter of time. Seems a miscue causing somewhat side pressure is what shears them off. I've tried every glue/epoxy/adhesive on the market...even JB Cold Weld...and NON-LEATHER tips will still pop off at some bad time when simply glued to the top of a ferrule. May be a day, week, month, or year...but trust me, they pop off. I simply don't like ANY chance my j/b tip will pop off...period.
Thats why I use a tenon when I install a non-leather tip on a ferrule. I make the tip from rod stock and machine a stem that threads down into an unbreakable ferrule. The stem adds more surface to glue and also holds the tip in place in the event of a horrid miscue or even if the cue is accidentally dropped onto a hard surface floor. Works so well that I give a lifetime warranty on my j/b tips & ferrules. Just my thoughts...I hope this helps.

i was referring to just the jump cue. i asked stevel and he uses a bunjee tip with his phenolic ferrule. i was just trying to get the white diamond because it hold chalk better than the one-piece that steve lomax puts on this jump cue.
