Anyone else not like Ebony cues?

I am hoping for this to be a civil thread and I am asking in general interest.

I would say from the listings I see that for many pool players ebony cues are more desirable and considered higher end or "bigger"

I just do not see it. I find ebony, especially when there is a lot of it the dullest and most uninteresting choice for a cue. Outside of a few interesting pieces I have seen it is just black. Might as well be black stainedd, "eboinized" maple.

I especially dislike white and black cues.

I really adore beautiful wood. For me that is wood with beautiful colors and interesting grains, and I love the contrast of beautiful woods together. Black to me has a use as an outline or highlight color, but as the primary color or even just the traditional points and butt piece wood selection, so far inferior to almost any other wood choices.

I see a listing for BIG gorgeous Tacarella and when I look at it and its just black and white I just think really?

I realize I am likely in the minority, but does anyone else feel the same as I do?

Give me cocobolo, rosewewood, bubinga, burls, olivewood, holly, maple, bacote, padauk, satinwood, etc....and on and on...almost any wood over ebony.

I agree, I'm sure there are some exceptions though. For the most part give me cocobolo, some crazy maple, bubinga, bocote...etc...no wrap for me either.

It's all preference. I love figured wood but my personal preference is ebony because it displays a subtle beauty and sleekness. With all the gorgeous lambo colors why does Bruce Wayne drive a black one? Because it's a badass color

I agree completely. I have some ebony with brown streaks in it that I plan on using at some point. Solid black? Might as well have a plastic cue. I also don't see the attraction.

Ebony Hoppe cues are absolutely a beautiful cue. Doc Frye made an Ebony with stainless rings and it is an in-demand collectible.
But my favorite is highly figured CocoB.

First priority is how the cue plays.

Beyond that I do dig ebony. Certain types of ebony cues are legendary.

Esthetically I do dig ebony. But I do really dig figured woods as well. Various types of rosewood and coco are amazing.

For me, it depends on the cue.

The only wood I don't like the look of in a cue is oak. Show me an oak cue I like and I will be surprised. Yes, including Titlist cues.

Love the look of ebony, can't play with it worth a damn. I've had few ebony cues and just couldn't get the feel of them for some reason. I had an absolutely beautiful Murray Tucker with ebony forearm and six maple points with three veneers and sold it.

Every custom cue that I have had built from scratch has had ebony in it, except for one and it didn't play as well as the ones with ebony.

Most of my players, from years ago, were "heavy" cues and ebony is a heavy wood that has a hit I like the feel of.

I try to buy cues that I think are going to "hit" the way I like...looks and colors of woods are secondary to that.

I like simple cues. Cues with lots of "stuff going on" look nice as "ornaments" to me, but they aren't something that I want to buy or play with.
