Anyone else shoot better on less sleep?

By less sleep I mean less than the recommended 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. When I get anywhere from 3 to 6 hours of sleep, rudely and miserably awoken by my alarm, I know I will have a great day of shooting. Oversleeping definitely tends to put me out of stroke for the rest of the day, while getting the "recommended" hours of sleep the night before generally leads to a more or less average playing level.

Being almost predictably in stroke after less than ideal sleep just seems to go against all logic to me. And outside of my pool game, I generally feel better getting about 8 hours of sleep.

Does anybody else have similar results to mine? And could anybody give me a scientific answer as to why I might play closer to an optimal level when I don't get a lot of sleep? I'm guessing that it has to do with hormonal levels, but I truly have no idea.

Nope. For me, my best pool playing is when my EYES are rested. The more sleep the better.

The guys I play One Pocket with are older, so sleep deprivation isn't a problem. We often take naps during the game.

sleep,,,,, nah but if I don't have on casual clean clothes I can't play well. Dirty shop uniform is out and so is fancy out on the town clothes! And I need my ball cap! Clean and comfortable trumps sleep for me

Sleep is for the meek. I only lay down to get my thoughts in order for tomorrow.

I wake up tired when I don't get enough....when I do get enough. I wake up even more tired lol explain that Neil de grasse

By "out of stroke", do you mean that you are more hyperactive, less stability of eyes and muscles, more nervous and more adrenaline? Maybe less sleep makes you more relaxed and tired? Does a couple of brews help settle you down and calm your nerves?
Some people use beta blockers (e.g. propranolol), and/or natural herbs (e.g. valerian root) to help calm and improve their pool game.

Ive known 2 people to say that.
One was a good player in Austin Rick Stanley who worked shifts and sometimes out of need would play great with no sleep
Another was Alex P- After he flew from the PHI to Canada - he played good enough to win a tourney in Toronto.
He claimed the jet lag helps him coz he hes tired.

I read that on the "OnePocket is so slow thread". Something about It's so...have to wait for the super seniors to wake up to finish the game.
A Nap? Happy Hour is a nap at my age,

Pool best played when rested.

I actually feel more hyperactive after less sleep, though that won't become evident until a couple hours after awaking. I've been sober for over 12 years and have only been shooting pool for over 6 years now, so I will never know the affect alcohol would have on my game. I've seen it's positive (and negative) affect on people, though. I like how you theorize that I might be more relaxed from being tired and that this would contribute to more eye and overall muscle stability. This could be what it is.

I might have to experiment with valerian root.

No, not me. I need 9-10 hours of sleep every night. lol

You would LOVE White Diamonds tournament, also with a hundred thousand dollars in winnable money at stake. Not a bad way to spend a weekend without sleep.

Oddly enough, I do seem to play better when I've gotten less-than-ideal amount of sleep (5-6 hours) the night before. However, I should mention that I play mostly in the morning...if I played in the evening I'd be crashing through a match.

Also, I can only do that for one day. A second night of 5-6 hours of sleep is a disaster the next day.

I have always played my best ANDROID made the best scores with little to no sleep- 24+ hours???? A little assistance couldn't say.

Take this how you may : pool players have a tendency to over think things, alot. If you can get to a point where that turns off but you can find a way to keep the alertness and muscle memory alive then you've got something!

My eyes can't focus back and forth in sync for proper aiming without enough sleep. If I'm already playing I can go on way beyond tired into the wee hours and hold my own. But if I get up the next day and try playing on low sleep I drop 100 fargo points.

Made the mistake of sharing a motel room with a team mate at our last regionals and didn't get rested. I was an embarrassment to myself and the team the next day. First team event I have ever played where I was sub .500 for the event. Never again.

Replace play with work and offshore and 5-6 hours of sleep up at 5 work 6 to generally 8. I toss and turn a lot so 5-6 is sporadic and broken. Tho if I need I'll take a 15 min cat nap at 9 break or 30 min after eating mildly quick. Some times after 6 too but just 15 if I do. Stuff like that is how I've been out running jobs and working long hours for up to ten weeks straight. Maybe up to midnight I did that for few weeks in row on that 10 week stint.

Wouldn't have happened if I didn't do that I would have been too tired started to lose attitude and make mistakes. Def regulate my need for rest is a better way for me to put it.
