I made a cue for a guy. It had a cm forearm with 4 cocobolo points. The handle was cocobolo. I put a ebony butt sleeve on it with a hoppy ring. It is nice looking and plays great.

When I gave it to him, he saw a sp conversion cue in the case that had an ebony butt sleeve. He said "my cue looks just like that one."

I looked at them both and said... "oh shiitt, it does."

He said he wanted a matching break cue.....

I told him only if you give me back the cue and I will re do it. I will change the butt sleeve to cm with 4 cocobolo points just like the forearm.

Any one else had a "what the hell was I thinking?" moment???

Write up a price schedule show charges for a blank, point blank, veneered point blank, rings, inlays ect. When some wants to dance let them see the price points.

Of coarse we all want to discount some money the more extras they add on but you must have a baseline on paper.

Big difference in price between a SP and point cue. Most people don't know what is going on in the construction.

You're right, he did not realize the difference between a front pointed cue and a SP.

Also you are right that I must write up a price schedule...

So what is the difference to the customer. He gets a cue with 4 unveneered
points in both cases. He gets a cue with no a joint ring in both cases.
Only difference is in one the point wood flows into the handle, in the other there is a seam. The time you spent on making the front doesn't mean anything to him. 50.00 schmelke blank vs your time. Do you think the cues play different. Good lesson to learn early on. Don't make what everyone else is making. And, your entry level cue sets the price point for everything else you make.
