Anyone Ever Get a Bad Custom Cue

drivermaker said:
OK...everybody that did respond between List A or B took List B, which I would HAVE to think is a no brainer regardless of how you evaluate their cues.

In 1992 the ACA, or American Cuemakers Association formed their Hall of Fame. Since that time, ONLY 10 cuemakers have been inducted into that Hall of Fame and have been bestowed the highest honor. ALL of the names in List B have one thing in common, THEY ARE THE ONES in the Hall of Fame.
How do you top that?

But wait, there were only 9 names that I LISTED. There's actually one more cuemaker that is in that Hall of Fame.

Yet, whenever his name comes up, ALL of the guys IN LIST A, (in addition to some obscure hacks that NOBODY ever heard of) get placed in front of him for cue recommendations from the forum cue elitists just because they got a business card printed up with "custom cue" on it somewhere and learned how to use a lathe. (regardless of how half-assed that might be)

The 10th and last member of the elite group in the ACA Hall of Fame is Dan Janes, maker of Joss cues.

Ohhhhh.....I can just hear the agonized groans emitting over the internet right now. DAN JANES???!!! He's a f*#ked up PRODUCTION cuemaker!!!

Well boys....he's a Hall of Famer in the world of cues in the ACA. That's why I say, give me a damn good Joss ANY DAY of the week from someone that's been recognized and given the honor over some obscure wannabe hack each time. He's also still alive, the cues are readily available, and the price is right.

Just remember.....HALL OF FAME. There MUST be something pretty special about what he does or he wouldn't be recognized. Now....push the end of your noses back down where they belong. :D

hmmm.....interesting.....i still don't like the hit of joss cues though.......LOL

Dan Janes makes a nice cue, he makes about 10-12 custom cues a year. He also used to build cues with Bill Stroud another great cuemaker. Joss as a company makes a great production cue.

Do you think everbody on list B, including Dan Janes, started out making cues good enough to get into the ACA Hall of Fame? Of course not, would you call them wanna be hacks. Everybody has to start somewhere, and all the guy was asking was for in the other thread is speculation on who we think is the next Schick or Hercek or whoever.

Man life goes on, your getting to stressed over what people spend THEIR money on. Chill a little bit.

Jim

Trust me when I say this...I am NEVER stressed out. I sure do love f*#king with all of your heads though and stressing YOU out.

Now...guit bothering me Goddammit...I'm goin' down to play with my Hercek now!

You should!! That's why the door is open just a crack to you...but you're STILL on the outside looking in. :D

BTW...what about the 10 people or so that go out and buy some no name hack's cue because someone said that it was a great "custom cue"?

let me guess.........a joss cue is the key that unlocks the door.......damn, no wonder i've been looking in.......LOL

and the other 10 people.........they're in the same boat......LOL.

on a serious note though, joss does make a great production cue. i do think that dan janes HOF is a combination of his custom cue making ability(does he still make a few customs?) and his production, but i'd say that the unduction had more to do with his custom cue background.

i speaking totally blind here.........but where are joss cue's manufactured nowadays?

Joss cues are made in Towson, MD.

For the money, I'd go to http://www.josscues.com/cues/customcues.asp
and CREATE A CUE. You can choose ANY butt, any forearm design, any additional inlays, or any stain for super decent money. And once more, it's from an HOF cuemaker.

He makes a few one of a kind custom cues annually. Here's an example of one that he made for Ralf Souquet. It's the turquoise and ivory one on the home page.
(just in case you forgot, Ralf uses a Joss and so did Sigel when he was winning everything) Care to open that door a little further to see if you can come in?

Gotta go with you on this one. I like the hit of a production Joss.

I'm still a custom-cue snob, though. :D

B-Day Present for DM

I don't know when Drivermaker's birthday is . . . . but I got a line on a CUSTOM cue from and UP-AND-COMING, future HALL OF FAMER, cue maker with, GET THIS, a PREDATOR shaft!!!!

Who's in with me to buy it for DM's next birthday??? Or, hell; let's give it to him for Memorial Day. Or, Father's Day. Oh, wait . . . I heard him called a mutha, not a fatha. ;)

How about you exchange that for a Pamela Anderson blow up doll?? :p :D

Hey, I resemble that remark! My reasons for purchasing custom cues is I can't get what I like in a production cue. I like even spliced points with either hardwood veneers, recut points or regular veneers if they are very well executed. I like sharp inlays and exotic hardwoods.

While the hit has to be there I also value excellent workmanship. Truth be told, I am horrible about differentiating the hits of various cues. I know if I like it or not and that's about it...lol.

You asking me?

Hell yes I have been burned, lied to, put off, and screwed by a cuemaker. The sad thing about it all is, he says he is the victim. What a load of BS.
Purdman

I ain't going away buddy!!! Not until I get the correct shaft!

Sounds like he's already given it to you! ;)

I do not think that it is entirely accurate to call the cuemakers in list A "no-name hacks" which is to imply that they are not good at what they do. Drivermaker, have you any personal experience with any of those cuemaker's cues which might back up your labeling?

Had I structured the questions for the driving test, I know one person that would be driving a bicycle around because he never got through the written exam. YOU!!

Go to the blackboard with your dunce hat on and write 100 times..."I can't read or comprehend what I read for shit".

WHERE did I call the cuemakers in LIST A a bunch of "no-name hacks"?

Go back and read carefully....oh well, forget about it...it ain't gonna sink into your thick skull.

You are an idiot, you know you are just too cheap to ever spend the money to get a custom cue so you try to stir the pot by saying that they are no better than cheap production cues. If you prefer cheap production cues that is fine, just don't try to pretend that because you prefer them that they must be any better than anything else custom or not.

ROTFLMAO...I think I just pee-pee'd my drawers from laughing so hard. You fucking moron. It's BECAUSE of what I own that I can make some judgements and a number of guys on here have seen what's there. I don't have the greatest collection in the world compared to many on here, but it'll sure beat the shit out of your entire junk pile. And of the production cues that I own, NOTHING is cheap. Besides, the guys like DD, Zack, Scott, VAP, and a few others know that I'm yankin' chains. You're just too stupid to know or figure that out.

So...what does your stash consist of...a Fury cue and a Predator shaft? LMAO

BTW...I never saw you respond to your reading comprehension test either, numbnuts. LMAO
