Anyone ever play GOLF on a snooker table?

^ where are you from? Cuz on the east coast (and in the official 'Golf' rulebook) it says that you play it from the right hand pocket by the D.. rotating clock-wise until you reach the right side pocket... just like you said.

And yes, there is a rule book, and yes, I've read it..

I'd be glad to answer any questions about the game ;)

BK...You have it backwards. The first pocket is indeed the upper left hand pocket, at the head end of the table...but you rotate COUNTER-clockwise. The 6th pocket is ALWAYS the left side pocket. Your way, the 6th pocket would be the upper right corner, at the head end (which is Pocket #2 in golf).

Golf is a great game, especially with several players. I never heard of the 3 scratches or fouls making you go back a hole. We always gambled (so much a hole and so much a scratch (hickey), and you got a 'hickey' for a foul...either missing your ball, or shooting it in the wrong pocket. If you were not snookered on your ball, and still missed it completely, it came off the table, and was spotted on the foot spot, at the start of your next turn at the table. If it was snookered, and you missed it, it counted as a hickey, but didn't come off the table. BTW, the only time the CB goes into the D-ring, is when it is pocketed or shot off the table...not on OB fouls, or misses!

Hey wait a minute Scott. I think it depends on where your from. I'm real familiar with the game and any time I ever played be it CO CA AZ and may parts of the midwest the first pocket is the upper right with the out hole center right. Well either way works but I'd have to think backwards. LOL Remember sell out pays double!

How about liability (some places called "citation") or payball? Both excellent and now, not often played games on 5x10 or 6x12 snooker tables.

Golf tidbit

Golf on a snooker table was popular in Denver during the '60s and '70s. And I noticed yesterday afternoon that a bunch of old-timers had a golf game going at Paradise Billiards at 38th and Sheridan (the old Family Fun Center).

At the old York Billiards at Colfax and York Street, the houseman, Lloyd LeBates, had a daily golf match lined up with a local car salesman, who usually received a spot. Hundreds of bucks changed hands during those games, and they were a joy to watch for a young kid just learning the game.

One variant I recall was the sell-out rule. In games of three-handed or more, the player who shoots in front of the winner (the guy who sells out) had to pay double. Not a bad rule when you think about it.
 
Great game . When I lived in Waco Tx. we put a snooker ball on a new piece of chalk , if you knoched it off it would cost you a hickey. This actually makes this game alot more difficult in certain situations. The snooker ball starts off in the middle of the table , once it is knocked off it is placed back on the chalk where ever it stops.

Hiya Rod! Gee, I played it in CO, and it was played just the way I described it...in Denver, Colo. Spgs, Pueblo, Gunnison, and Grand Junction! Actually, I believe you and the others, but I've personally never played clockwise, nor seen it played that way. That, of course, means exactly nothing! :D :D :D

Golf games

Club Billiards, here in Wichita, is strictly for 'Golf games' (down by Douglas and Seneca). Daily games (mostly in afternoons), with the best games being played on Friday and Saturday nights. Hickey's range from .50 to 3.00 usually, and games from $5 to $20 a person usually.

Many pool players try their luck, only to find out there is a 'learning curve'....lol

Good game, good company, and great fun.

Card tables and dominoes going all the time. Great cheap cheeseburgers.
Old time atmosphere (20-30's type poolhall).
 
In Modesto it is played as Rod said. You break from the D and the 1 hole, as they call it, is at your right shoulder. The 2 hole is at your left shoulder and you go around until the side pocket below the 1 hole is hole 6...This is how they do it in Modesto and they have offical rules someone dug up posted on the wall to prevent arguments...
Doesn't mean this is the right and only way but how its played for thousands of dollars in Modesto...
 
Golf is like Bar Pool. There is different rules in every place. The version I've played the most is the 1 hole is corner pocket to your left shoulder with the last pocket being the corner to your right shoulder.

Three pegs, one on the green(3 strokes),Blue(6 strokes), and pink(3 strokes). Each hole is played indipendant of the other. Once the first person gets in the hole, strokes are counted for every turn after until everyone gets in. Then the balls get spotted in order on the next hole.

You got to hit a rail, and for all fouls there is a penalty, ussually 3 strokes per foul, ex. you dont hit your ball, hit another guys ball and take down a peg is a 9 stroke shot.

After the round everybody pays up to everyone who is higher than themselves, be it 10 cents,25 cents or a dollar a stroke. A pay grade for every level.

Must be a canadian thing.

What you are describing is not anywhere near what the rules are for Golf in the west coast. It's much different. And the games can get incredibly expensive, and boring. But this game takes the best speed control on earth to be good at it. I saw this one guy play, he was just a no-name, fresh from Mexico. He wasn't a good shotmaker, position player, anything else. But he had this keen skill at hitting a shot with perfect speed, almost every single time. It was almost unbelievable how good this guy's speed control was.

He was also a pool player. Maybe a B+ at best, but on the golf table, even shortstops and above would not dare play him in his home room. His move and speed control were too much for anybody.
