BK...You have it backwards. The first pocket is indeed the upper left hand pocket, at the head end of the table...but you rotate COUNTER-clockwise. The 6th pocket is ALWAYS the left side pocket. Your way, the 6th pocket would be the upper right corner, at the head end (which is Pocket #2 in golf).
Golf is a great game, especially with several players. I never heard of the 3 scratches or fouls making you go back a hole. We always gambled (so much a hole and so much a scratch (hickey), and you got a 'hickey' for a foul...either missing your ball, or shooting it in the wrong pocket. If you were not snookered on your ball, and still missed it completely, it came off the table, and was spotted on the foot spot, at the start of your next turn at the table. If it was snookered, and you missed it, it counted as a hickey, but didn't come off the table. BTW, the only time the CB goes into the D-ring, is when it is pocketed or shot off the table...not on OB fouls, or misses!
