Anyone ever see one of these?

I bought this cue about 2 years ago because I had never seen a Schon with an Ivory joint.. I guess it could be an Implex joint but there is definitely a grain in it.. Anyone else ever seen one of these? It has the scripted S on the butt, but the chon has either worn off or it was never there.. ???? Go figure, right? As far as I'm concerned it is definitely a Schon.. Looks very R-6 to me...

You could get that joint on the "S" series cues and I have seen a few on the "R" series as well. They are rare.

I think that cue had been refinished at some point and "chon" was polished off.

Yes I have seen Schon cues with Ivory joints. All had stitch rings meaning they were older.

That would be the shortest joint pin I have ever seen on a Schon.
Still could be one though.
You could send the post link to Schon and see if they could identify it.

I bought a Schon some years ago purported to have an ivory butt cap. I spoke to Evan in an effort to verify the cue. He told me back then that there were no ivory butt cap Schon cues. There were, however, ivory joint Schon cues. You may well have ivory and it may be a rare Schon. Be careful, however, with a Schon that has ivory at the bottom...it may not be original.

My understanding is what ivory joints they did do early on, all were flat face, and not many.

They also did some synthetic/implex type joints that looked like ivory that were flat face, too.

You have what I call an in-between Schon. A lot of the cues made with the implex joint were made after the S series but before the R series. Some of the S series Schon cues came standard with an implex flat faced joint. Before Schon standardized on the steel joint some of the R series and Series designs were made with implex flat faced joints and maple stitch ring collars. Here is a picture of 3 cues I have in my personal collection a S2 and 2 R1's with implex flat faced joints. IMO the implex flat face joint in an old Schon cue is one of the best playing cues. Your cue looks like a S7 or a R6 model with an implex flat faced joint, maple stitch rings and black collars. Made in 1982 more then likely. Hope this helps.

a friend of mine , he used to be a pretty well known player years ago... still plays really good, anyways.. he sold schons a long time, and is pretty tight with evan, Evan once made him a cue for a gift , it has crazy amount of ivory in it.. but it also has a ivory butt cap.. he told me, that he knew of there being two cues like the one he had, one of them was givin to johnny archer and he sold it.. so i do believe there are probably a few schons out there with ivory buttcaps.. i should have taken a picture of it when he "schon" it to me.. lol

Pre S series

Here is one of the first schon's made and is in my collection. It has an implex joint of a material that looks identical to ivory. Pretty sure its not. It has the scroll S on the cap. this one has only white rings and is all original. These cues play very good but not what you expect from a schon. You have a very nice cue. Thanks for showing it off.
