Anyone ever try this...

Two 2lb ankle weights; Relaxed smooth stroke training to create muscle memory. The weight helps me keep my forearm straight up and down. The only drawback is that the weights can get in the way. I wish someone would invent a 7-10lb "training" cue that is properly balanced.

Actually, the thought has never crossed my mind to even try it. But if it works it might be worth a try.

p.s. looks like something that would have to be tired at home :D

Interestingly I do the exact opposite.

For whatever reason, I have a harder time keeping my stroke fluid and straight with a lighter cue...as the cue gains weight it is easier to make a fluid well timed delivery of the cue.

I will use a lighter cue for an extended practice...to force myself to train my arm to work properly without the added benefet of the weight from the cue.

When I switch to a heavier cue to play...I can feel the weight of the cue in my grip and can feel a more fluid delivery from cue's inertia.

Done it!

Yes, I have a table at home and have a few one piece dufferins. One of them has two hammers ducktaped to the butt end. It messed up the balance, but if I hold the cue right at the end I can make it work. After shooting with that for about five minutes the regular cue feels very fluid.

He even had tennis racket grips on his cues.

I will tell you..I can't knock the grip of Earl...I think he is after a very tacky type grip that allows him to grip the cue lighter and not worry about the "grab" effect.

I have been messing around with using the golf glove...and I REALLY like the way it feels on a leather wrap cue......the added traction of the glove allows you to hold the cue so light you almost let go altogether...and the cue stays in place...I can't do that without the glove on..the cue slides in my hand and my reaction is to "grab"....which is no good.

Not only that, but I feel like I get added power in my stroke as well...It may very well be just the confidence in the grip....but I do see a difference

I am currently searching for a way to get that type of grip feeling without having to wear a glove cause it is kind of a pain in the arse...and of course you get the "earl" or MJ jokes that go with it......:)

I would imagine the more games you win, the fewer jokes you'll hear... :)

What's the deal with the striped piece of cardboard?

I placed a piece of paper with a thick stripe on the table so that I have a reference when I practice my stroke. The thick stripe shows up as a reflection on the cue ball and the length of the paper helps me place my bridge at the right distance (I tend to make my bridge too long).

I've done something close to this. But i use a 2lb weight and put it on my wrist instead of the cue. I really don't know if it helps or not tho. I figured it would help keep my forearm straight down also. Think im gonna try it again.

That's what I thought he was talking about, until I saw the pic. The weight on your grip hand to help you find vertical and one on the bridge hand to encourage you to keep it on the table through the complete shot.

Seems like there is an easier way to accomplish this without the added wieght
